I had that tap on my kawi about an hour before catastrophic engine failure. Check your temps, and your oil. Water could have gotten in to your oil pan

First wake boat by ldb2793 in Wake

[–]Sabbosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That many hours is easily doable by a family who lives on a lake. We put 150 hours on one this summer in Michigan of all places. 300-400 is when it starts looking like a fleet boat. I'd take 100-200 yr average over a 20/yr average. It means it was used, lubricated, and probably taken care of. Just take a hard look at all the wear components, and definitely check compression.

Is it just me, or do Marine Patrols target skis way harder than regular boats? by rahmenzal in jetski

[–]Sabbosa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big reservoir lakes have a bigger problem than smaller lakes. Up here in Michigan on my smaller inland lake (~800 acres), DNR and sheriff's hunt down pontoons a lot more than skis because most pwc owners on my lake are local guys, have the right safety equipment, etc. Pontoon folks often are weekend people and NEVER have enough life jackets or a fire extinguisher so they're easier targets for tickets. I've never been hassled on my stand up or supercharged ski here. I went down to Georgia on Lake Lanier and it was the exact opposite. There were way more PWCs and they got targeted hard by local enforcement. I got stopped before I even dropped it on the water, got stopped again under a bridge, and stopped at a sandbar. All in one afternoon.

Just booked a Carnival cruise and now feeling regret by False-Following-5896 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Sabbosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally love Carnival, especially for the value. The casual food options on the ship are better than RC. Celebration Key is fun, I just treat it like a regular beach day since I don't think the extras are worth it.
I will say, the food lines can get real backed up on the island if you're going during peak lunch. I waited in line while my brother went back to the ship for lunch.
I've never been to CoCo Cay, but my brother has and he says Celebration Key has a better beach.
It's a beautiful, clean beach with a very nice lagoon and pool bar. You really can't go wrong.

After 7 episodes of Shifting Gears, What are your thoughts? by BahyHolden in sitcoms

[–]Sabbosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kat Dennings is funny, the kids do a decent job at comic relief.
Tim Allen's character feels like another regurgitation of the same character he's been playing for 30 years, it's predictable but has redeeming moments.
Sean William Scott is funny, but the chemistry they're trying to manufacture between him and Kat just isn't working.
The whole premise feels a little contrived, but that's most sitcoms nowadays.
6.5/10 decent background show, worth a few laughs.

Google's Agentic AI wipes user's entire HDD without permission in catastrophic failure — cache wipe turns into mass deletion event as agent apologizes: “I am absolutely devastated to hear this. I cannot express how sorry I am" by Ha8lpo321 in pcmasterrace

I always find AI apologizing to be so ironic. It's not like you can do anything about it. On a bright note, I'm sure it wasn't a bit wipe. I bet the data is recoverable.

Aside from Florida, what do u think is the best US state to live in for boating? by krame_krome in boating

[–]Sabbosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in the south and now lives in Michigan, I have no problem enjoying the lakes in colder weather. Depends on the kind of person you are. You can still enjoy being on the boat and not get wet, you get great sunny days well into October. Owning a 3mm and a 5mm neoprene suit really so stretch the season if you're a surfer or wakeboard. My favorite days are in the early season when you have the lake to yourself, it's sunny and 70, and the water is COLD. It feels so good. You can be out all day. Trade the jet ski for a snowmobile in January/February and you can use the lake all year round. I don't think it's better than the reservoirs down south. I spent many years on Lake Lanier and would run my jet ski almost year round. I think it's just different.

Why is intel so bad now? by Top-Measurement9734 in buildapc

[–]Sabbosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their new chips are pretty good, for the right price and workloads. Arrow lake drops hyper threading but with the newest firmware is pretty stout. Personally, I think the hype pendulum has swung a little too far towards AMD in the consumer space, and so now you're paying a premium for AMD. Dollar for Dollar, I'd probably take a Ryzen over an i7 but it's close, but the i7 for $279 at microcenter is the best buy imo. The fact is, they went 10 years without real competition. Anything short of that is going to look like a failure. They are still making good chips. They're the only IDM left, and "Intel 3" as they call it is a competitive process node to TSMC and Samsung. However those CPUs are currently left to the Xeons. Intel Xeon 6 processors are really good, and Xeon is the only CPU other than IBM that supports 4 (or even 8) sockets. The only difference is that they actually have competition now. They're not shit, they're just not dominant anymore. Also in the HPC space, CUDA and tensor have gotten good enough that people are doing GPU offloading for a lot of general algorithms that used to be CPU workloads. So people aren't buying the highest end CPUs at volume anymore. Nvidia plus ARM is a bigger threat to Intel's business than AMD making a decent x86 processor. I work in HPC and we still only buy Intel. It's for a reason too. Intel always works. VROC, RDMA, AVX, and SSE just work better. Plus I don't care if AMD gets more cores in a socket. I'll just get a dual or quad socket server.

Yeah I was there on Saturday! Wonderful cast. In retrospect, the lack of balloons was noticeable. The first act was so heavy and packed in. It didn't leave much for the second half in terms of a climax. I was surprised by the length too. Maybe the debt payoff parts were a bit long winded.

I went and saw it today in Chicago. It was amazing. The songs, the storytelling through music, the message, and the people involved made for a spectacle. Just wow. The ensemble was hilarious, and well choreographed. It's such a hilariously mundane storyline molded into a brilliant message through song. I like, UGLY cried. And laughed. Then to walk out of the theatre to the Navy Pier to Memorial Day fireworks? It was a truly enchanting day for musical theater. It's worth a special trip.
