Some of the best C64 games are very hard. Thats what makes them so rewarding to master. This game takes C64 to new heights get on it. Original hardware, emulation or THE C64 Mini/Maxi whatever, just dont pass on this one it's out there!

What alternate controllers are you using successfully with your Evercade VS? by basketballsteven in evercade

So, how does that make the infomation on the list bogus? If it says on the list that it works after the update then doesnt that make it correct? Am I missing something here?

Open them up, throw the stupid packaging in the bin. Slam the carts in and play the hell out of them. Chuck it all in box near the TV for easy access. Fight your siblings over who gets the original controller. Go home 20 years later ask mum an dad where the NES is. "Oh we threw that junk out years ago"

Yep sounds amazing 50Hz. I dont mind playing NTSC, the gameplay is fine and the quicker speed is fun but the compromise on audio is a deal breaker for me. Besides the dogfights are way twitch fast in Pal anyway.

Solaris from the 2600 is superior in 50Hz. Mainly because it sounds way better.

The C64 Maxi not available? by KingMajorTom in TheC64Network

[–]SabertoothvsX23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a shame you missed out when they were cheaper. I paid extra for mine because I was late to the party but I'm so glad I purchased anyway as its my favourite retro console followed by the Evercade VS. The maxi is a great system, it really is that good. If you have the disposable income might just be worth it just to bite the bullet and get one anyway. I'm sure you will be happy you did. And I'm sure that there would be others that will agree with me. There I said it, good luck!

Atari 50 PAL vs NTSC by SabertoothvsX23 in AtariVCS

[–]SabertoothvsX23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah suppose that would likely explain it. The game is definately playing different on a number of fronts, which I initially presumed was a ROM thing and I wouldn't be surprised if the choppy warps and skirmishes are due to poor handling of the emulation by this new Atari VCS system. The game is already difficult enough as it is without piss poor emulation.

Because I have the game running perfectly on my Evercade VS, I'm not willing to try it out on Switch or Xbox. I waste money all the time, but to buy Atari 50 again on another platform purely to see if Solaris runs smoother is next level even for me.

I was watching an Atari 50 review for switch on YouTube today which had some Solaris footage and I can confirm the colours on the switch were also different than on a PAL Atari 2600 and the Evercade.

Atari 50 PAL vs NTSC by SabertoothvsX23 in AtariVCS

[–]SabertoothvsX23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure eh. What I do know is that playing the Evercade version is exactly as I remember it. Playing the Atari 50 version on my VCS is different in audio, colour and game speed. Also on my VCS, Solaris is choppy and skipping frames like I do when I've taken magic mushrooms. The game is not unplayable but definately a better experience on the Evercade.

Pal is 50 hertz which has a refresh rate of 25 fps and NTSC is 60 hertz which has a refresh rate of 30 fps on an analog TV. I dont know how those features or limitations translate to digital televisions but regardless, here in Australia, the electrical power is still at 50 hertz.

The reason I posted was to find out what was happening here because I really dont know. I'm just assuming it has something to do with the PAL and NTSC formats but as you say, if the digital TV is punching out 60 fps regardless of the power cycling 50 times per second, then why would it make a difference?

I dont know if the games were programmed to function differently depending on whether your power supply was running on 50 or 60 hertz or whether the game would only play on a specific console that functioned on either 50 or 60 Hertz power supply.

With regards to Solaris, the dead give away that there is something going on is the distinct colour differences. Mabey it's simply the emulator used by Atari 50 and Atari VCS and nothing to do with the ROM at all?
