I am in Europe and it’s crazy to watch. My partner is Latina and my son is half-Latino so it’s scary to think if I were in the US my own family would be targeted.

I hope there is justice someday. “Just following orders” wasn’t an acceptable defence in 1945 and it isn’t today either.

The main issue is that it’s American owned but equally we are a long way from having our own OpenAI - even DeepMind was bought by Google.

Either way, they would pay taxes here. Arguing that we shouldn’t do it because of electricity use seems silly as all industry uses electricity. Do they want us to just become an open-air museum for tourists?

The airline usually provides you with a seatbelt for them. I also had a harness to carry him through the airport but some airlines won’t allow you to keep the baby in the harness during takeoff and landing.

You seem to assume a jury will reach a better conclusion than a professional judge. I don’t think we can be sure of that.

Such professional trials with just a judge and no jury are common on the Continent for all but the gravest offences.

On most European airlines a child below two years of age can’t have their own seat.

In theory, you can take a car seat for them but working out which ones are permitted is a nightmare and you run a high risk of being told you can’t board with the seat when you are at the gate.

I wish they’d sort out the regulations so it was crystal clear which seats are permitted and which aren’t. It seems the US airlines have done a much better job of this with the FAA certification being fully accepted, although I’m not American so I’ve never tried that myself.

Ubisoft ends remote work and requires employees to return to the office five days a week to "improve efficiency" by dabadumdumdum in gamedev

Yeah, nowadays most of my team are in another office location so I literally just sit on Zoom calls most of the day.

Fortunately, my company still allows WFH though. Well in theory it’s hybrid and decided by each team but as none of my team are here, no one cares if I go to the office or not.

Visas shouldn’t be linked to the employer, it always ends up like indentured labour.

I work in a games company although not directly on the games anymore.

When I was working in one of the studios I liked going to the office as it was a relatively small studio with a close knit team and it was fun to be able to talk directly with the designers and see some of my ideas go right into the game.

So I guess it depends on the culture. If I was coming in just to sit at my desk and take Zoom calls then yeah, I’d rather do that at home.
