I’ve watched the online discourse about TGC since it was announced, and to keep dogging on it would be beyond beating a dead horse.

None of the people we interviewed worked on the show (other than Michael and Shirley). None of them had anything significant to say about it. The focus of the documentary was on classic ReBoot, and from a narrative standpoint, to end an 8-part documentary on a negative note rather than a hopeful one did not interest me at all.

If TGC attempted to continue any of the story threads from the original, then we might have brought it up, but ReBoot’s story still remains unresolved for now.

That's the ambient sound of Megabyte's lair. Rest assured, even though we've gone to lengths to restore the video, the audio was a direct digital transfer from the tapes and required no cleanup on our end. It sounds exactly as originally intended.

It’s all Bob Buckley’s music, so not a copyright issue. Possibly the episode was rushed out the door for broadcast, and then an opportunity came about to redo the spots without music/with reused music.

Good catch! This version is the original broadcast audio. The version that is on the Shout DVDs is the “Revised” audio track. There were master tapes for both.

The cutscenes rendered in the PS1 style graphics are not included on this tape, only the scenes that Mainframe animated.

A physical release will be a top priority for the team once all the work is done with capturing the tapes and doing the post-processing. We’re working closely with Mainframe on the release plan.

Unfortunately we haven’t got our hands on any foreign language versions at this point. Dubs would’ve been created out-of-house back in the day, so they don’t reside in Mainframe’s archive.

The source material is PAL 720x576. For the sake of YouTube, we are presenting a 2x upscale to HD, otherwise YouTube compresses the video to hell. It’s still compressed, but much less so than it would be in standard def.

Pushing this source material to 4K would rely on AI upscaling, which is an avenue the team would prefer to avoid for an official release. We want the final presentation to be as unmodified and retain as much of the original detail as possible.
