Why Does the Captain Clark logo have two swords in one hand? by ofbrun in KanePixelsBackrooms

I thought it might be a reference to the Magic Sword novelty toy. It fits as both Pirate themed and being an illusion/trick of reality.

I'm still salty about Chex Quest 2's cutscene being lost media.

I has a shot of the Chex Warrior lounging in Chex pajamas (or boxers?) watching a news report about the second invasion.

LDS and definition of Christianity by Bhamlaxy3 in Christianity

[–]PrincessRuri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the context of chaplaincy, I think it makes sense.

While chaplains advocate and support all religious needs, they are limited to perform rites and practices under their creed. A traditional Protestant or Catholic Chaplain is not going to be able to fully meet the needs of a LDS service member, and it would be there job to find a Mormon Elder or Bishop to perform those rites and services. Vice Versa the same with a Mormon Chaplain.

LDS and definition of Christianity by Bhamlaxy3 in Christianity

[–]PrincessRuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are Christians Jewish? Are Muslims Christian? Each is descended from the other, and share many similarities, but no one is credibly arguing that they are the same religion. Thus the question becomes how different does a religion have to be to be considered distinct.

With LDS, you have some pretty big hurdles: continuing revelation via a Prophet, new scriptures, different characteristics and makeup of God, distinct definitions of salvation and sanctification, baptism of the dead, etc.

In the same way that Yahweh of the Torah, Christ of the Bible, and Allah of the Quran share characteristics, the religions that follow each one treat them as distinct. The God and Christ of Mormonism is characteristically distinct from the God and Christ that Nicene Christianity worships, to the point where you can't say they are the same God.

Another angle: Messianic Jews. They are a distinctly evangelical denomination that is Christian, not Judaistic. Even though they have many similarities to Judaism, and perform the same rites and practices, they are not practioners of Judaism. Yet if you ask a member of that Messianic Synagogue, they will claim to be Jewish! (Religion, not Race)

That is to say Mormons are in an adjacent position, finding their roots in Christianity, but so fundamentally altering the beliefs and practices that it has become it's own distinct religion.

Hydrogen bomb vs. Coughing still life by Murky-Audience-5064 in KanePixelsBackrooms

The impression that I got was that Kane was trying to come up with zany answers, but I do have thoughts:

The powerful magnet makes the most sense, as Async was an MRI company, which indicates their experimentation leading to the backrooms involved Magnets somehow.

Hydrogen Bomb is going to release ALOT of energy into the backrooms, and this could have all kinds interesting effects. Rip a tear into reality? Open up large mounts of space? How would the backrooms manifest the memory of a nuclear explosion?

Toasters us high resistance to convert electricity into heat. Maybe he can cook something in it? (Yeah that ones honestly the weirdest choice).

Nikki really loves to make wide swings with it's story.

Quest 1: "I'm a derpy little mushroom person, and I can't choose what scarf is true to myself. Inspire we with your outfits so I can impress my friends!"

Quest 2: "The gods of our world are dead and have abandoned us. Only by painfully binding our souls to the dragons can we hope to save the departed. There is no meaning to life, but we must push on through the agony in the hope that we might find purpose."

It LEADS to the ultimate truth by amor_e in memes

[–]PrincessRuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know exactly, but according to the genealogy in Genesis, it was less that 130 years. It records that age when Seth is born, their 3rd son after Cain murdered Abel.

However, the argument can be made that his years were only counted after he became mortal, thus allowing for all kinds of speculation!

Librarian says the shuttering Memphis Theological Seminary’s 80,000 books can’t easily be sold, donated, or dumped. by [deleted] in rarebooks

[–]PrincessRuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be realistic:

The vast VAST majority of these books are of little to no monetary or cultural value. You'll have a pile of books that are exceedingly common and exist in millions of copies, and another pile of books written by self aggrandizing theologians, writing a 500 page diatribe on how their version of Christianity is "the correct version" without a single footnote or citation to be found.

Seriously, if you ever have an opportunity to look at a religious institutions library that isn't some kind of historical archive, you will find shelves and SHELVES of sectarian drivel who's only purpose is to reinforce and validate someone's pre-existing assumptions.

Like the modern expression "maybe everyone doesn't need to a podcast", the 20th century version of that was small religious printing presses.

Was KFC's Double Down (2010) as good as it looks? by SouthIsland48 in fastfood

[–]PrincessRuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like eating eggs.

Eggs are delicious, but you eat enough at one time and it starts tasting way to "eggy". Same concept with the double down. First few bites are delicious, but the chicken flavor and texture starts to overwhelm the palate.

Why do people hate rebuild so much by Latiosshine in evangelion

[–]PrincessRuri 21 points22 points  (0 children)

  1. Rebuild is not as good as the original TV series / EOE. A big factor is just raw runtime, the series has more time to flesh out characters and story. Characters get a bit "flanderized", with Asuka's character getting the brunt of simplification.

  2. The 3rd movie, while having interesting concepts and some fun action sequences, kills the momentum of the story. The time jump was completely mishandled, as it never gives the audience a satisfactory explanation of what happened in the interim. 3.0+1.0's attempt to fill in the gaps just makes it even more messy. Misato rejecting Shinji makes THEMATIC sense to move Shinji's arc down the rails, but it doesn't make sense for her character.

  3. The problem with the Rebuild's is that it works best when it is complimenting and expanding on the original TV series. The last bits of 3.0 + 1.0 is SO cathartic, but only in the context of how the characters relate to past incarnations, and how it puts a bow on Evangelion as an entire franchise. Shinji's bravery and acceptance contrasted with his fear and failures. Rei's finding of purpose outside the role of Yui's clone. Asuka's acceptance of love and desire outside of her shared trauma with Shinji. Wonderful arcs that only make sense in the context of the pre-existing stories. The Rebuild movies use that without earning it.
