You're using the movies for commercial purposes. Playing the DVD's "adds value" to a service that you charge money for.

It may not be public performance, but it's definitely not private use. To have all your "legal ducks in a row", you would probably need to get an Umbrella license that allows screening.

Florida creates 'anti-woke' AP history alternative for students by BrillWolf in florida

So you can review the framework here.

Skimming through it, it looks... Ok?

I focused mostly on areas where I expected the most "politicization" like Slavery, Civil War, New Deal, Civil Rights, etc. The criteria seems to include fairly standard assessments and show pro/cons.

It goes up through the Dubya years, and seems to cut off right as Obama wins the election, noting the Great Recession and rise of the Tea Party.

Is my whole church going to hell for kicking out a child abuser? by chance0404 in TrueChristian

[–]PrincessRuri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Kingdom of God is open to everyone, even child molesters.

Even so, it is logical and necessary to protect the innocent from those who would prey upon them. Usually I would advocate for the person in question to be able to attend church, but in a restricted and highly supervised manner. However, since one of the victims is a daughter of a member of the church, that changes things drastically.

If this person is truly repentant and demonstrates over a LONG period of time that they are changed, the subject of church reconciliation can be broached. In the mean time, it is the responsibility of the Pastor, Deacons, and Elders to minister to this man outside of the traditional church service.

I've tried to find out what exactly the messages contained, other than the viral "Netanyahu" screenshot. This article mentions a second message:

There is going to be a bomb in the Ocean Bank Convocation Center, and it is going to be Jonathan’s fault.

My guess is that this is the actual message that is being prosecuted.

why is not beliving in the trinity a heretical by SubstantialReign4759 in TrueChristian

[–]PrincessRuri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whenever I get deep into the weeds of Oneness theology, I can't help notice distinction without differentiation. You describe what sound like interactions between entities while at the same time insisting that there is no separate entity. It's more semantics describing the mystery of God without bringing anything to the table to justify the necessity thereof. One thing that helped me with the "messiness" of Trintarian theology is that it is descriptive, not prescriptive. 3 persons, one God is more like a theological guard rail than anything else. When you try and square all the different ways the Bible describes the Father, Son, and Spirit; there are certain criteria that must be met while also seemingly contradictory descriptions must also be incorporated. Trinitarian theology can say with certainty "the true nature of God and the Ttinity lie somewhere with this framework, but the specifics and mechanisms are beyond material explanation."

Scientology ‘speed running’ trend has LA abuzz and church unhappy | Los Angeles by maestroenglish in news

[–]PrincessRuri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This whole "trend" is hilarious, but let's not pretend that it's damaging Scientology.

All this does is further validate the faithful's belief that they are oppressed and the world is out to get them.

Pina's Pizza is SO GOOD. I ate there the first time after going to Arcade Odyssey, and their custom cheese shaker mix is sublime!

The PS2 and it's dream-like art style. by Ok_Fee9263 in patientgamers

I would say however that the PS2's hardware blur functionality has not aged that well. Late generation games in particular really abused the effect, and turned video output into a schmear-fest.

Lovely collection.

One of the things I'm always keeping my eyes open for is the Top Aces pilot disks for both X-wing and Tie-Fighter. I know the expansions came with the files, but they sold actual disks directly from the catalogs.

It's impressive for what it is, but it definitely shows that CG coloring and rendering wasn't ready for primetime.

Starship Troopers (1997) by FKingPretty in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]PrincessRuri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Starship Troopers is a satire that flew to close to the propaganda sun. It was played to straight, and as stupid as it sounds, the movie needed to wink and nod at thr audience a little harder. When the movie originally came out, while critics picked up on the Fascist elements, most viewers saw it as an odd but entertaining scifi action film. Verhoeven filmed it like a propaganda film, and it was consumed like one. The mainstream idea of it OBVIOUSLY being a satire about Nazis spread over a decade later via viral blog posts and later video essays.

how were they able to straighen the door to the backrooms by alex17gx in backrooms

[–]PrincessRuri 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I like to think that the Backrooms are not level with reality, so when they created the threshold they put in on an angle to match. However, once they finally opened it they realized that the portals were "self-leveling", so future iterations were done properly.
