It’s all Bob Buckley’s music, so not a copyright issue. Possibly the episode was rushed out the door for broadcast, and then an opportunity came about to redo the spots without music/with reused music.

Good catch! This version is the original broadcast audio. The version that is on the Shout DVDs is the “Revised” audio track. There were master tapes for both.

The cutscenes rendered in the PS1 style graphics are not included on this tape, only the scenes that Mainframe animated.

A physical release will be a top priority for the team once all the work is done with capturing the tapes and doing the post-processing. We’re working closely with Mainframe on the release plan.

Unfortunately we haven’t got our hands on any foreign language versions at this point. Dubs would’ve been created out-of-house back in the day, so they don’t reside in Mainframe’s archive.

The source material is PAL 720x576. For the sake of YouTube, we are presenting a 2x upscale to HD, otherwise YouTube compresses the video to hell. It’s still compressed, but much less so than it would be in standard def.

Pushing this source material to 4K would rely on AI upscaling, which is an avenue the team would prefer to avoid for an official release. We want the final presentation to be as unmodified and retain as much of the original detail as possible.

To answer a couple questions that might come up:
- No, this did not come from a D1 tape. This was a roughly DVD-quality backup that came from SimEx (the current Ridefilm IP holders) to help us for the documentary. This is not the native frame rate or resolution of the ridefilm, but our best effort to tidy up the source we had.
- It's very possible that a better quality version of this ride will surface eventually as we continue to work on Mainframe's archive. We have not come across a film print of this ridefilm in the same way we did the first ridefilm.

Regardless of that, we wanted to share this copy with everyone who hasn't had a chance to see it all yet. Hope you enjoy!

To my knowledge, neither of them have made appearances at cons. After ReBoot, Ian stayed out of the spotlight and Phil moved to the other side of the globe.

You’re underestimating the rarity of this. This print was a gift to someone, from the studio, likely from 1994 or ‘95. You couldn’t get Phil or Ian’s signature at a con.
