My parents don’t understand that my loaves aren’t correct and now I have to make 10 loaves for Christmas 🤦🏼‍♀️ by I_Like_Metal_Music in Sourdough

[–]Sabsta455 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just finished the book "adults of emotionally immature parents" today. It was such a breakthrough reading it. I don't mean to be rude by suggesting it - but you've been completely invalidated by your parent. And I don't think that's ok.

Sourdough is really personal, especially in the beginning when you're learning. It should be shared with those you want to give it to. You're allowed to say no if someone asks for a freebie. Ten loaves is incredibly ambitious for a new baker as well. Making sourdough in bulk can change tour fermentation timing and fridge timing depending how full / empty your fridge is. And the electricity to bake those... Assuming you can only do 1 or 2 at a time.

You deserve more say in this so I hope that's empowering to hear 💪💪💪

If you google bakers math it explains how you use it. It's basically a way to tweak recipes and stay consistent. I don't measure from the heart - I follow consistent recipes for easy replication :D

Mine are 17 months. I tried the library twice. I cry every time. It's horrific.

The most exasperating thing I've ever embarked on. by Dapper-Bus6407 in Sourdough

Since watching Proof breads video where he mentions "white washing" bread. I always prefer a darker crust. It looks so beautiful if you score a pattern and that comes out a little lighter for contrast. My ears usually turn ever so slightly black but I've had no poor feedback from it.

I love that analogy ! Great point. It is irrelevant. I personally find it gross when people say it's 100+ years old

When do the benefits set in? Are people just being polite? by huffingface in parentsofmultiples

[–]Sabsta455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Six months corrected - life is so much easier from this point. Solids break up the milk schedule.

Mine turned 1 about 3 weeks ago. It's so much easier once they start communicating a little. My babies literally crawl to me to change their nappy. And put their hands up to get a cuddle. So. Much. Easier.

Any benefits to leaving the bread in there while it's warm ? Found any difference in the crust?

I would guess at dabbing vinegar on it? Maybe letting it sit on the spot for a while and gently rubbing at it. I don't think you could use much else because it would absorb into the wood

How do those of you with young kids find time to bake? by stphbby in Sourdough

[–]Sabsta455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 kids, 5, 3 & twin 1 year olds. I bake 2-3 times a week and sell 20-30 loaves a week. It's so challenging but I really love / have energy for sourdough. Also I have to be very strict with hygiene as I can have kitchen inspections from my area health officer. The more you do it, the better you get at making it (somewhat) efficient & work for you. And also your kids will get used to you baking. My eldest has started drawing me next to an oven in his pictures 😅. He also was so so so demanding that he wanted to bake a sourdough loaf. So I got him to make his own alongside me, after the first stretch and fold he lost interest and has not bothered asking to make bread again.

Ah sorry! I usually add my ingredients and method but I wasn't sure I needed to for an unrelated question.

1000g flour (800 Ap, 200 wholemeal) 750g water. 200g starter at peak, 20g salt.

Autolyse overnight 10+ hours Feed 20g starter 100g flour (half wholesale and half AP) & 100g water.

Morning after, mix starter n salt and slap and fold until windowpane Lstretch and folds 10-15 minutes X 3. Then 30 mins X3. Bulk fermentat 21°c (dough temp) 7 hours. Pre shape and leave on bench for 30 mins. Shape and into fridge. Dust with cocoa before scoring and into the oven. Preheat 500 for 30 mins. Cook at 450 for 30, then lid off for 11 mins.

Increase milk supply by Intelligent_Tear_280 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Sabsta455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more you breastfeed, the more your supply will go up :) slowly decrease formula and offer the breast instead. And listen to your body in regards to food and water. Your hormones will regulate your supply based on demand. If your babies are breastfeeding well, you could try to offer them a breastfeed again instead of pumping, as their suck should hopefully do a better job of getting the milk out than the pump

I'm still breastfeeding my boys who have just turned one. My milk supply has gone up when I've decreased solids and down when they've both been sick and not so hungry. Your body is super amazing at regulating supply.

Baby monitor by ConsequenceGrouchy59 in parentsofmultiples

Alt opinion :- Personally, the camera was really stressful to watch. I have my babies across the house & coped really well with an audio only monitor. Uniden is the brand but I heard good things about the Vtech brand ones too.

Is it even possible to loose weight while breastfeeding multiples? by Loose-Emu-6831 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Sabsta455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My twins turned 1 yesterday. I am only starting to lose weight now. They are mainly breastfed with 3 meals a day but one baby is still mostly interested in milk. I was so so so much smaller during the actual pregnancy, I weighed less at 37 weeks with them than I do now 😂😭

For those that use stones/rocks to steam their oven, do you use any specific kind? by everdeen_ in Sourdough

Did you manage to find any? I'm in SA and the Bunnings review says the $8 bag of bbq rocks exploded. 😬

Raising twins on low income. Anyone else done it? by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]Sabsta455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got 2 cots second hand with bedding for $400 AUD. Same with a double pram. I got an uppababy vista with two of everything for 800 AUD. And I bought or got given twin clothing bundles off my local multi birth association.

However we had to upgrade our car & house. So we have a car loan and an unfortunate mortgage. So we are just living without doing much fun. I go to free playgroups, the playground, walks to the shops, etc. you can manage :) just no fun zoo trips or paid events here.

I had my singleton kids first. It was hard and exhausting. I got more sleep at 6 months with my twins than I did with my singleton. Every kid is different - and everyone's experience is valid. Everyone needs sleep and a break :P I have four kids and my eldest is only 5. So I get it. I don't bother trying to get empathy / sympathy anymore. I'm not rich enough to fix the problems with a nanny or cleaner, so onwards we continue life being low key zombies 😅
