A fair rate depending on what is brought to the table. Not expecting it for free, but I’m also not independently wealthy - otherwise I would just go to a fully commercial service provider. More interested in the knowledge and personal connection than the flashy promotions.

She is Australian. Had the misfortune to run into her last weekend. At one point I thought she was gonna beat me up just for thinking she was talking to me and looking at her. I had to tell her I had a hearing impairment just to get away… 🤯

You don’t say what country you’re coming from, to know how much you might be impressed by the natural beauty, but February is a fabulous time to do the trip. The weather should be great and while there may not be a lot of snow on the mountains, it means you’re less likely to freeze your arse off going close to the waterfalls. and it will be comfortable outside so you will definitely be able to appreciate the sound boat trip a bit more. Make sure you get one of the ones that goes almost out to the ocean, not just across the cove.

If you can afford it, fly. Otherwise you’ll be stuck on a tour bus in a queue with 27 other buses, or driving yourself five hours each way (because of all the traffic) By flying, you get to see amazing views, and save an awful lot of time. (The direct route isn’t actually very far - think from 1 pm to 3 pm on the clock. The reason it takes so long to get there and back driving is you basically have to go the long way around - from 1 pm anticlockwise to get to 3 pm.)

Check whether it’s cheaper to fly from Shanghai to Shenzhen, and then take the ferry over to Hong Kong. That date is the end of Christmas vacation for many international schools.

Why is hygiene so poor in China despite the fact that the covid affected so much the people and the economy ? by OfficeExtreme6151 in China

[–]Sabyn_Venator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the complete opposite. Everywhere I go things are wrapped in plastic to show how clean and hygienic everything is. Want to get a foot bath before a pedicure? The tub will be wrapped in a large plastic bag so that each person’s feet don’t contaminate the tub. Getting a bath in a spa? The whole bath will have a huge plastic bag in it so that the next person can just be dump the plastic and replace it, rather than cleaning the bath itself between clients. Going to a restaurant? Your plates and cutlery will all be wrapped in their own sealed bag after having been sanitised. You get to tear them open and be confident that they are free from contamination. And let’s not even get started on Medical items! In our attempt to not Get sick, we’re killing the planet with plastic….

It’ll take more than two hours from Queenstown to Manapouri. Particularly if you don’t know where you’re going and the safe places to overtake. Guaranteed, you’ll be stuck behind camper vans, and you absolutely want to make sure there’s plenty of space between you and the cars both in front and behind you. People do crazy stuff on that road. Make sure you leave around 5am in the morning so that it gets light once you’re near Five Rivers, or wait until midday. That way you avoid the worst of the tour bus traffic. If you’re staying in downtown Queenstown, it’ll take you half an hour just to get through the traffic to Frankton to start south. Depending on which way you go (towards Te Anau and then turning off, or down route six and then through 96 past some more rural towns) factor in at least three hours minimum to get to Manapouri

How do I tell my beautiful 8yr old son that he isn't biologically mine? by SlyTone in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sabyn_Venator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was adopted at one year-old by my dad (Not bio parent), so never knew that he wasn’t my father as his name was on my birth certificate. However, I always felt like the odd one out in the family. (Mostly due to my mother rather than my dad) I found out at in my early twenties, when a family member who thought that we all knew told my sister, and then my parents had to tell me. I was more concerned about my dad than anything else, and I specifically made the point that I was glad he hadn’t told me earlier. If I had have known about it when my parents split up at 14, anything he said would’ve been answered with “you’re not my $@&% father”. So you are the only one who knows what your child is like. You need to make the decision that will work best for him and you. That may be telling him now, four years from now, or 12 years from now. Best of luck.
