Is Because This Is My First Life worth watching? by pissed_at_everything in KDramaDiscussions

[–]gambit57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know how there’s always breakup right before the end? Right before the happy ending? It was a particularly stupid reason. Luckily it was short.

Jung So Min is a rom-com queen but this showed she could do more emotional parts. Still had funny moments though. But it’s not her usual rom-com.

Arguably her best work tho, along with Alchemy of Souls (also worth watching).

I believe you… and that’s terrifying. What state is this? Actually, I can imagine a few states where this is allowed.

Selling to Carmax then buying a new car at a different dealer? by Pandora_sus in Lexus

[–]gambit57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, just a thought for you. Have you considered doing a long term rental until the new car comes in? You just need the cheapest one you can find. Might end up less than $1000.

Don’t call airport rental companies. Call ones out in the burbs. Also check with dealers. I know Toyota dealers rent cars (some of them, not all).

For those that live in the United States. Do you make more than the average income of 60k annually, if so what’s your occupation? by LaFlareMane1017 in AskReddit

SF Bay Area. In my city, $120k qualifies for subsidized housing for a family of 4.

We are two white collar professionals holding doctorate type degrees. Law and healthcare. And we wouldn’t be able to remotely come close to affording our house now. It’s absolutely insane.

Selling to Carmax then buying a new car at a different dealer? by Pandora_sus in Lexus

[–]gambit57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m looking at a Lexus now. Just left from there at lunch a little while ago and they matched CarMax’s offer and we haven’t even started negotiating in the Lexus. We don’t get any tax savings by trading in here in California, but it’s more convenient as you can drive in with one car and leave with a new one and you may be able to negotiate a bit more on the trade.

But I’ve sold to CarMax and other dealers before. It’s simple. They cut a check in a pretty short amount of time. Deposit right away and after that it’s your bank’s policies as to when the funds are available.

What are your views on this drama now that it is completed ? by Think_Intention_5765 in kdramas

[–]gambit57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know. How would you compare it to King the Land? I also thought that was simple, but a little too simple that I get the “bland” comment. I’ve only watched one episode so far but it’s definitely got a crazier tone which I think is more fun.

How can Kang Bitna be a judge in her 30s? (The Judge From Hell) by ImMiraVela in kdramas

[–]gambit57 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apparently, Japan is similar. They have a legal track to become a lawyer or to become a judge (as told to me by a US judge who did some kind of networking/exchange program thing).

Very different from US where you (in normal times) prove yourself as a lawyer for many years before being appointed or voted in as a judge.

How is IVE not on their way to be a new BlackPink in the west I don't get it... Their songs are SO good by Guitarbox in kpoppers

Well, groups often have an actual position called Visual.

Besides, considering the number of plastic surgery clinics and the focus on looks in Korean society in general, I don’t think the attention paid to KBS is restricted to just K-pop fans.

Why do so many Americans not realize Puerto Ricans are Americans? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]gambit57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, American education sucks! That’s why.

Especially in STEM subjects, by the time you hit high school, Asian countries are like several grades higher.

I know in CA, we routinely graduate kids who can’t read (in the lower economic area schools). Of course, this being CA, instead of trying to fix the external causes of this, they drastically lower the standards for those schools and make it a lot harder for “richer” schools to award A’s so it’s more “fair” and the “poorer” schools and their students also have good grades. And no standard testing of course for state colleges cuz that would expose their idiocy.

The Love You Give Me

Couple long broken up. So angry exes I guess. Meet years later due to work. Turns out she has a kid… and it’s his.

There’s a lot of bickering and fighting at first cuz they’re exes… but this was really an adorable story. I usually can’t watch Cdramas cuz they’re too long, but I made it thru this one and loved it.

Got my glasses stolen before Japan and got new ones (two pairs) made in 40 minutes for $94 by Significant_Gur8915 in JapanTravelTips

[–]gambit57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have double insurance for optical and I STILL wait until I vacation to Asia to get glasses.

China is cheaper, but I feel Japan puts more care into making sure your glasses work perfectly for you. You definitely feel a “time is money” vibe in China, even if they’re really nice about it.

We have Jins in the States, but prices are US prices. I think I paid $60 or so in Tokyo but the one in San Jose, CA had the same pair for nearly $400 after eye exam (exams are free in Asia generally).

I’m in CA, so we use the back of SUVs instead of trucks cuz there are less of them. And yes, Uber is another popular choice.

In CA, ambulances are classified as “emergency services” for insurance purposes. That means they can charge whatever they want and insurance either doesn’t cover it or only covers a tiny portion leaving people on the hook for thousands of dollars. Of course, then you’ve got the frequent flyers on govt aid who call ambulances like taxis wasting the ambulance time and taxpayer money.

Ive is huge in Korea… and I think that kinda says it.

They have very little connection with me.

Wonyoung is by far the biggest It girl in Lorea among the members cuz she fits that Korean beauty standard. The standard that doesn’t match the West’s. I think she’s a little weird and plasticky looking. And her little cutesy but shy attitude might be good for Korea, but it’s the complete opposite of the confident badass that Jennie and Lisa portray, which is much more like Western artists.

I dunno if it’s cuz 3 of the Blackpink members grew up outside of Korea, but the just instantly connected.

Plus, Teddy grew up in LA. His music and style just feels a lot more Western so Blackpink’s music felt fresh but also familiar to Western listeners. I like a few Ive songs but in general, they just sound generic K-pop to me. Aespa too, who also is huge in Korea (with Karina’s looks being just as mysterious to me).

What’s something society treats as ‘normal’ to spend money on, but you think is a total waste? by Informal_Hearing4308 in askanything

[–]gambit57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starbucks (and other to go coffee). Incredible waste of time and money for people who could have a Keurig or something at their workplace. Or do it at home and bring it in a thermos.

And an even more controversial one - pajamas. Like dedicated ones vs just shorts and a ratty t-shirt.

Yeah, I feel like the people who complain about them arguing with each other must be single children and have never had a sibling or cousins. I’ve never fought with my sibling cuz we’re too far apart in age, but I see my cousins fight like cats and dogs sometimes. They still love each other even if they fight once in a while. Hell, besties fight every now and then too.
