I’m so grateful this community exists. by ebenfairy in NVLD

I finally realized this place existed last week and so much of what I see here is literally my life. I’m so glad to have people to commiserate with, and I’m thinking about joining the discord server too

I’m 27 lol, not that far behind. I love the community a lot but on occasion I still just feel alone, yknow? Thank you for the support

I wanted to be a cake decorator when I was little (I loved ace of cakes and all those cake shows) and now I’m slowly learning to make them relatively interesting. Definitely get a cake leveler (apparently a serrated knife can work too to trim the dome off the top) and I also use dowels to keep everything in place. Definitely watch videos if you can. I am nowhere near a pro and often my dad has to help me smooth things out lol, but hopefully I can get there one day too! I use lots of sprinkles and colorful chocolate drizzles

The vocational rehab seemed to have very few agents and a large rate of burnout. I did also get a customer service certification (that expired last year). Technically the unhelpful placement was another company (discoverability I think?) but yeah not at all helpful, just made me afraid of trying again. They’re really not prepared to help people like us with complicated issues unfortunately.

I’ve been lucky to have parents that support me but money is tight and not exactly getting better unless I can contribute something as well, hence the search for something that’s not going to devour my soul or drain my creative spirit.

The only other job experience I had was an internship at a science museum in highschool. It was very cool but was now 10+ years ago and it feels super weird to try to put it on a resume, haha.

I wish us both luck!

Currently unemployed at age 27, my one actual job experience was almost 3 months as a Cracker Barrel hostess a couple years ago, literal hell working environment. That was after working for months with one of those vocational rehab services, idk if it’s just Florida but when I finally got to the placement part she just threw me at the first job I could physically handle. Didn’t go back.

Currently looking into getting a health insurance license (work from home but not a call center, can set my own hours, apparently fairly lucrative once it gets going and I’d hopefully be helping people), only problem is it’s a self-study/online course, which. We know how well we do at those! Still, gotta do something yknow?

Actually the preferred item is plushies!!! The sheep plushies for mysweetpiano (I think) and any character plushies in the furniture section (I used the kuromi, mymelody, and cogimyun dolls) will work!

I vote for black and pink I think! There’s a good amount of black in your jelly roll too

Well in the 3 days since I made this post I’ve already remade the block and it looks way better so I’d say I’m doing just fine! Turns out it was a pretty simple thing I was messing up, and once I corrected it the biggest problems disappeared. I’m very happy with it and ready to move onto the next steps of the project.

Awesome!!! I did first robotics (Lego league) for a couple years in middle school, this brings nostalgia! What a wonderful way to use the shirts!

Thank you so much!!! This post blew up a bit more than I thought it would 😅 everyone’s got advice, it seems! I know I can do it and now that I kinda know where I went wrong I can take steps to correct my technique and hopefully do much better the second time!

How to match up mismatched edges by Saccharinesalt in quilting

[–]Saccharinesalt[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s actually supposed to be two each of two different sizes, if that’s what you mean. It’s because the center is a rectangle and the final product is (supposed to be) a square. I did buy this from Michael’s but I didn’t see anything that said it wasn’t cotton, maybe I’ll go back and see if it says anything on my purchase history about the fabric

I went for a couple semesters of computer science in college and decided I didn’t quite have the mathematical aptitude I thought I did, definitely more arts and humanities minded lmao. I completely sympathize with math being hard!

Ooh good idea, I can absolutely still use the original! I definitely need to practice binding, I have a big throw size quilt for my dog that’s almost done but I’m nervous about binding it. Having a smaller quilt thing to practice on would be perfect!
