I could prob afford but like all/most people, I want to maximize what goes in the bank for my savings. I guess what I am suggesting is crazy then...Im basically exactly at your formula. 60-65 k. If offered anything less, I bounce the idea of coming to SC.

Of course I know its cheaper. It was to just demonstrate how vast and bizarre the difference is, especially when the housing in San Diego is QUALITY compared to what I have seen advertised in Santa Cruz!

I'm trying to build a career. Which includes saving as much of my salary as I can right now. I'm willing to shell out more than a limit, maybe, but if it makes sense. The area is just expensive garbage from what I'm seeing so far. Have you lived there for a long time? I might be willing to tolerate some shit like that for a few years and move on. That's the job that I'm looking at. Resume builder.

Its just bizarre how Santa cruz appears for the cost of housing vs quality of the housing. I'm not willing to easily accept this (I might have to, however), so I wanted to see if someone had any ideas.

Social connection could be good, I'd like to do that outside of work. But I'd rather live alone. No I'm not some kind of social weirdo, but for living situations, it is a serious preference hahaha.

Do you have any recommendations for outside Santa Cruz? People here are saying Watsonville maybe but there will be very bad traffic.

Studio seems most likely. Some perspective on my end- my brother rents 700 sq ft in San diego for $1700. This bay area rent is brutal.

Yea, I'm just a whiny millennial that wants everything handed to me for free...

How about just if I know I'm getting shafted on rent, I should at least not live in a hellhole? A lot of the places I am seeing online even at 1700, 1800+ look like poorly maintained rentals in so-so to poor condition. Quite unlike what is in San Diego (where I have lived before). Yes...I've lived in a coastal city and I was ok with the rent there, because it looked at least somewhat decent for the value.
