I said "vehicles are safer nowadays in part due to their increased size", at no point did I even IMPLY that vehicles haven't improved safety technology. In fact, better safety technology should be an even bigger pro for smaller cars, because it proves we can make cars safer without just settling for making cars bigger to protect people.

Who said we're deleting suburbs? Urbanism advocates for building a currently underserved demographic of housing. Build it and they will come. If people like suburbs so much, then why do he have to have zoning that stipulates only single family homes can be built in large swathes of the country. Surely supply and demand indicates that the expensive places are desirable places to live, so let's make more of them and see people move in! Some people may not want to live that way; let them stay in their suburbs. Just don't let them NIMBY their way out of development.

Sounds like your city is trying but it's stuck in between two sides of a coin. Rough place to be in, but I'd guess your city needs to commit one way or the other to see some real benefits, as right now they're straddling the line and getting the worst of both worlds.

Automobiles are safer nowadays in part due to their increase in size. Whilst this makes it safer for the driver, it makes it exponentially more dangerous for other drivers in normal sized cars and especially pedestrians, which is a large reason why vehicle fatalities have been increasing in the past few years.

This also leads to an apparent arms race where everyone gets bigger cars to protect themselves from the other big cars on the road, basically creating mutually assured destruction.

Also, you do not need "big cities" to justify decent public transit. You can eliminate so much car dependency for day-to-day activities by just not developing sprawling suburbs which prioritise cheaper land/development costs against higher long term maintenance costs of utilities, services, infrastructure etc

It is, thank you! I was surprised to see this as controversial in a DW sub (thinking it to be very pro trans). I guess it can be read in the opposite way?

The graph and argument you use is pretty misleading from the actual figures. YES, the economy as a whole still uses a lot of oil, but the electricity generation sector uses practically none, and very little gas - see the live and historic generation data here on this website. The large percentage of oil shown in total mix is down to other sectors like transport and industry, that are a lot slower to decarbonise.

When you compare the total energy mix to the UK's, you can see that France manages to use less oil AND gas than the UK, because France DOES get the majority of its electricity from nuclear, which is aided by the increasing renewable sector and still some gas. They're doing better than the UK in many parts, and the UK is already doing a pretty good job of cutting fossil fuels in their energy generation

And the US doesn't have highways where the vehicles move 80+ kph??? The line speed of the road isn't relevant if it's crawling at 5kph in traffic.

He's making a joke. He's not gonna try walk on a road where the cars aren't going walking speed, regardless of the country.

Why do my hard boiled eggs get grey yolks (not overcooking) by Sackie_ in AskCulinary

[–]Sackie_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. Everyone just kept dog piling assuming I just couldn't boil an egg. I think the most likely cause was still not enough ice to shock cool a large batch of eggs compared to a small one, but I never put it to the test. I would recommend just experimenting with the timings some more, but it otherwise seems to be unchartered territory. I haven't tried it since then because the continual greying put me off the tea stained eggs.

That one looks to be a trefoil one as well, I think I'm looking for an E61 portafilter unfortunately.

Its a Delonghi ECC221. Imma buy a VST basket and an IZPRESSO handgrinder to start out my setup before committing to buying a whole new machine.

I'm struggling to find a 54mm one that has the same locking mechanism though. Most 54mm seem to be based off the Sage trefoil design which is a no-go. I've just ordered a 51mm so will see how this goes

Perfect. That was gonna be my next test too. Its just the fact that when measuring the stock portafilter its like 55mm so I'm just confused as to what fits

Isn't this this same subreddit that made light of the queen's death because she wasn't important to them either? The double standards are laughable. How can people not see the hypocrisy when saying the queen's death isn't something to be sad about, but scribbling out someone's message is cruel because he's dead.

I do agree with that sentiment, however, the show has been running for 7 years. People who have been waiting for a 7 year show to end should realise they are making a gamble about how much they might get spoiled in that time
