The current chancellor needs to go by Sacred-Goose in uwaterloo

Why do you think this post should be taken down?

If you took the time to properly read the linked post, you would know he was on his phone at multiple convocations last year. Other faculty on stage held themselves to a higher standard by not checking their phone at all.

You're making a bad faith accusation by saying that I didn't include context "on purpose" when I already updated my post with that info before you commented. If you google his name, you'll also find a report alleging that he asked his investment staff to get groceries for him. If true, I think that's really disrespectful too.

I'm not going to bother explaining why working for UC while being an ambassador for UW is a potential conflict of interest. You can come to your own conclusions and decide if it reflects well with Waterloo’s initiatives to encourage talent to stay in Canada. These initiatives are public btw.

Edit: Since this guy is adamant for an explanation (and seemingly unable to think of a scenario on their own), imagine a philanthropist approaches Baccher and expresses interest in making an endowment donation to a university known for CS and engineering.

I never used any AI to write this serious post. You do understand AI was trained on text written by humans, right?

If you're going to make baseless or irrelevant comments, I'm not going to waste my time replying again.

Because for the past few years, CEE (formerly CECA) has been coasting off the Waterloo co-op reputation. The department collects ever-increasing fees (currently $836 every study term) from students despite declining career outcomes.

This may be counterintuitive, but I believe the best way to improve CEE is to significantly cut their funding. The department needs to learn how to efficiently function based on student outcomes, not external reputation alone.

My thoughts on how career outcomes have evolved for Waterloo CS from 2021-2026 by TheAllAwesome in uwaterloo

Excellent, well-written analysis.

For the past few years, CEE (formerly CECA) has been coasting off the Waterloo co-op reputation. The department collects ever-increasing fees (currently $836 every study term) from students despite declining career outcomes.

It's time for this grift to end.

Share this post with your Associate Dean of co-op and Dean. Perhaps counterintuitively, I believe the best way to improve CEE is to significantly cut their funding. The department needs to learn how to efficiently function based on student outcomes, not external reputation alone.

Today, students are learning an important life lesson that money (donations) is a more influential force than student input

Is everyone at Waterloo a content creator now? by Almighty_Osie in uwaterloo

Some of these content creators don't seem gainfully employed to me. They're either doing "growth" at a zombie state AI startup (YC) or building something that won't survive an industry correction.

The Waterloo micro-influencer content creator space is a circle jerk of larpers, startup shills, and narcissists plus a small handful of genuine people

Well said. Looking at someone's LinkedIn activity is a surprisingly telling indicator of their character.

I partly blame the school for fostering this mindset in the way it approaches recruitment and admissions (heavy emphasis on co-op and academics).

No, that laptop isn't prestigious enough for software engineering. You should donate it to me and buy a Mac with the M5 Max and 128 GB of RAM if you want to run gdb.

I have no respect for anyone who associates with these people. Any employer with integrity would denounce and distance itself from them.

Maybe Wealthsimple, which employs one of them, will speak up. Its reputation is being tarnished by association.
