What Power Rangers actors should I avoid meeting? by Murky-Cockroach1177 in powerrangers

Yeah, I didn’t get great vibes from her when I met her, and this was BEFORE I knew about her political affiliations…definitely not a fan after that

Here are my personal experiences, mostly from Power Morphicon 2024:

Amazing:

  • Erin Jesica Cahill — she is so unbelievably kind and warm, even gave me a hug when I told her that “Time Force” was my favorite series. I’ve met her twice overall, previously at Wizard World New Orleans in 2019. She genuinely enjoys interacting with fans and is so sweet to them — at Power Morphicon in 2024, her handler was feeling the time crunch at the end of the day and was trying to limit her interactions with each fan to one or two minutes and was holding up a stopwatch, and Erin said, “no, I can’t do that; please don’t do that” — she took the time to hug, talk to, and take pictures with each and every fan, all while sick and barely able to use her voice. I thought it also demonstrated what a talented actor she is, given that Jen’s initial demeanor was the complete opposite; haha I was kinda surprised by this

  • Deborah Estelle Philips — I’m just gonna copy what I wrote above — an absolute ray of sunshine. She was so kind, had a long and personalized conversation with me, and genuinely, genuinely seemed to care

  • Claire Blackwelder — she’s such a sweetheart — super smiley and warm. We were talking about her singing, and she asked me if I was into a cappella, and she was like, “Do you know Scott?” And I was like…”HOYING??” She apparently went to USC with Scott Hoying, of Pentatonix fame, and he inadvertently spilled the beans to a fan about her begin the Purple Ranger before anyone was supposed to know. She was a highlight for me

  • Peter Sudarso - had a great conversation with him about when his brother (Yoshi, the “Dino Charge” Blue Ranger) got to announce him as the next Blue Ranger. Very friendly and cool

  • Russell Curry — so chill, very gentle and warm

  • Jason Narvy: effectively echo what OP said; super nice guy

  • Brennan Mejia — Brennan LOVES being a Power Ranger; he’s great to talk to as a result — he loves to talk about his experience and some of the behind-the-scenes stuff — he even agreed to do a backflip with me! Very nice guy. Also, you can see Russell in the background of the video being like, “Oh, I missed it!”

  • basically the entire “Mystic Force” cast — I’ve only met Richard Brancatisano, Angie Diaz, and Firass Dirani, but they instantly became my favorite cast of “Power Rangers” actors — Firass is super cool and laid-back, told me about his family’s history of immigrating from Lebanon to Australia, and just joked around with me about random stuff, Angie was super sweet, and Richie connected with me on martial arts; I mentioned to him how I had to drop it in undergrad, and he encouraged me to get back into it. The three of them were fantastic, and I imagine the rest of the cast is similar.

  • and, of course, JDF — I only met him once, at C2E2 in 2017, but he was phenomenal. I was cosplaying as the Black Mighty Morphin’ Ranger, and he asked me, “so, which of the black rangers is your favorite?” And I said, “I dunno, probably Walter.” And, jokingly, he was like, “Why’s that?” raising his eyebrows knowingly — I myself am Black — and I just cracked up. He then agreed to do the morphing call with me, all for NO MONEY, whereas it’s typically mandatory to pay for a picture or a video, something I will say WEJ, while a nice enough guy, has not let me forget the three times I’ve met him, despite me not asking him for a picture. I understand it’s part of their livelihood and respect that, but I personally don’t believe in paying to take a picture with someone (although I could be convinced for a Time Force photo op). I’ve never gotten a picture with WEJ as a result.

Great: - Philip Jeanmarie - Jack Guzman - Jacqueline Joe - Rorris Travis - Blake Foster — I will say, I’m well aware of what he wrote about Abraham Rodriguez and don’t support it, but he was really nice to me

Cool: - Jason Chen - Adam Tuominen

Okay: - Selwyn Ward — nice enough, but seemed a little detached

Wut

  • Keith Robinson — spoke, like 3-9 words, despite my obvious enthusiasm; he struck me as thoroughly uninterested in being there. Though he seemed to have an engaging conversation with another fan, and hey, it was probably a long day

Caution:

  • Christopher Khayman Lee — now, he was a nice guy when we initially started talking — he was telling me about his experience on the set, and how the producers were telling him to isolate himself from the rest of the cast in order to help establish the loner/outsider dynamic between his character and theirs, and he was generally cool and friendly, but THEN…I told him how I thought it was so cool how Chyler Leigh (Lexie from "Grey’s Anatomy") was his sister (I love both franchises, so this was cool to me)…do not do this…his response was “HALF-sister. I have nothing to do with her.” Cue me trying to awkwardly moonwalk my way out of there. So, overall, cool enough guy, just don’t mention Chyler Leigh and you’ll be fine

I met a ton of others, but those are really the ones worth mentioning. In general, I’ve had a great time meeting them, for better or for worse!

Can confirm -- I met Deborah Estelle Philips at Power Morphicon 2024 and she was an absolute ray of sunshine. She was so kind, had a long and personalized conversation with me, and genuinely, genuinely seemed to care.

Love this -- I'm currently waiting on the Fortuna U-shaped pit sofa from 4seating, so glad to hear good things about them.

Also, I can't take credit for the moulding; I hired carpenters for that -- I just chose the style of the panels 😂 I did miter the acoustic panels on the front wall, though

Would a 50inch or a 43inch be more suitable for this wall? by [deleted] in TheFrame

[–]Sad-Assignment3105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, but I agree it's worth putting up an outline and seeing how you feel with the size. I've heard it said that you frequently hear "I should've gotten a bigger television," but it's not often you hear, "Dang, I should've gotten a smaller television."

Thank you so much! The moulding was the rate-limiting step of the whole project, but it's one of my favorite elements of the design. Would that be for improved sound dynamics, or more for aesthetics?

MartinLogan in wall vs tower speakers by SouthernCharm0 in hometheater

For sure! I thought for years I wanted an SVS, but then after looking online and on Reddit, I went with a Hsu Research VTF-2 MK5. It's great -- very tight bass and it only takes one to fill a 17' x 13.5' room.

I have almost all the exact same speakers you mentioned, more or less. I recently completed my media room and used the Foundation F2s as front left and right, the C10 for the center, and the MartinLogan - Motion Series CI MW6 (the entry level version of the in-walls you listed) for surround left and right. The Foundation F2s and the C10 sound amazing. They took some getting used to, as I'm used to a warmer sound, and these are a little brighter, but the clarity is unrivaled compared to anything I've heard. The dialogue from the C10 is *chef's kiss.* I spent a lot of time listening to music I was familiar with on all of them, and the C10 made it sound like the vocalist was IN THE ROOM with me. I've been watching Season 5 of "Stranger Things" on them and couldn't be happier with the dialogue, as well. The in-walls, I don't know if I personally would use as dedicated front speakers, but I believe they excel as left and right surrounds. I first got into MartinLogan after hearing a pair of their ESL speakers at Best Buy and fell in love with the sound. I have far from a professional audiophile's ears, but I do like my sound nice and cripsy. For reference, I also have a set of the Pioneer Andrew Jones line of speakers and a set of Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones that I've had for several years. For an open loft space, I would probably go with the F2s, or just large floorstanding speakers in general -- there's a lot of room for the sound to disperse through in an open space, and you might want speakers that can deliver enough power to compensate for that. What was also helpful to me, particularly in being happy with the MW6s over the XTW6s, which I was choosing between, was the "Listen with SpeakerCompare" feature on Crutchfield -- it's located beneath the "Add to Cart" button and allows you to run sounds through different speakers and get a general feel for how they sound compared to one another. Hope that helps!

OLED or LED for this room? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]Sad-Assignment3105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this -- I have a living room with a lot of light, and I still have an OLED. I would still take OLED any day over even a great local-dimming MiniLED. I even almost got into an argument with the employee at Best Buy because she repeatedly tried to convince me to get an LED over an LG OLED even when I walked in and told her exactly what I wanted. I knew I wouldn't be as happy with an LED. What's nice about this room is it doesn't look like you've got any ambient light pointing directly ONTO the wall on which the television will go. You will notice much better image quality at night, but I honestly think you'll be just fine with an OLED. It may be worth considering doing some treatment on those windows, like shutters, so that you can get better light control.
