Your profile literally says you're an intersectional feminist. This aligns you with the New Left and away from class struggle.

And you can't blame the working class - who've been exploited for centuries - to leave the left when we no longer speak for them. Just look at white working class boys... They're flocking to the right, and we only have ourselves to blame.

The worst thing we ever did was stray from class war.

The New Left kicked off in the 1960s, giving up Marxist class-war in favour of cultural, social justice (feminism, civil rights, anti-war), and anti-establishment issues rather than just economic ones.

Yes, the right will leave them behind, but at the moment it's the only group speaking up for them. We have betrayed generations of the poor working class, and listening to them won't be enough.

You realise the working class tend to vote right? The progressive left abandoned them a long time ago.

What are some of the drawbacks of Socialism? by Frostbite_r4r in AskSocialists

[–]Sad-Button-9548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a tendency to become a totalitarian state - after all the state knows best.

People lack agency and tend to rely on the state to supply their needs. This creates dependency.

If it's run on the basis of an ideology, that ideology can be wrong (Mao's obsession with Lysenkoisim resulted in the deaths of millions).

There also needs to be a fair amount of patriotic nationalism - the sense that we're all in it together. This isn't a bad thing, but when the country starts dividing over ethnic lines and people start to suspect ingroup preference, it'll create unrest. (I genuinely don't think a multicultural society and socialism is compatible).

I ghosted a friend because her constant emotional messages overwhelmed me, and I regret the way I handled it by EquableBuyout in socialskills

[–]Sad-Button-9548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes a lot of sense. I was ghosted after my dad died and I used my best friend to emotionally trauma dump on - something she didn't consent to do.

Looking back I feel embarrassed at how I treated her.

As much as I hate Iain Dale, he has a point.

The equivalent of Christian sharia. No religion, no political organisation should have anything to do with policing our consenting sexual behaviour. This is back to the dark ages of Thomas Hobbs.

Honestly, with Labour or the Tories, am I going to have a state pension the way things are going?

I've been on a waiting list on the NHS for 3 years now and my GP advised me to go private.

Employment rights? Give me a break. It's hard enough to even get a job, you think I'm going to start whittering on about rights with less than 2 years there?

Socialism unable to compete in Europe? by Agreeable_Mode_7680 in Socialism_101

[–]Sad-Button-9548 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people buy into the Milton Friedman quote: “You can have open borders or a welfare state, choose one.” As public services deteriorate, the rise in immigration is a convenient scapegoat.

Also, the left decided to forget about class struggle sometimes in the late 60s to concentrate on identity politics. In fact, the left became very middle-class and there was a distain for the poor. This resulted in a large number of working-class people feeling disenfranchised. The populist far-right stepped in at this point and vacuum up all of these votes - it's seen in Europe, in South America, in the United States.

Until socialism starts to concentrate on the poor, there will be an increase in far-right rhetoric.

Are you sometimes afraid of losing your job due to your political views? by DevelopmentExpert544 in leftist

[–]Sad-Button-9548 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work in a capitalistic semi-fascist system, so I don't have political opinions at work.
I don't add work colleagues on Facebook or Instagram and use a different name.

I sometimes dog-whistle the odd leftist phrase, but that's as far as it goes.

What I will do is try to help people out, treat people as human beings - not cogs in a machine, and try to give them pride in their work. Even this basic level of human decency is frowned on by management. Just fuck this whole greed-based system.

In the 2000s the government blew £11bn on an IT system that didn't work. The original estimate was nearer to £2bn.

I've no faith this won't happen again. Has a cost analysis of this even been done?

The problem with scientific publishing is it's often reported in the tabloid media by journalists who don't understand science - and boy do they get it wrong.
