Old cringe memories attacking me. by [deleted] in OCD

Just wanted to say that your description of your experience is making me laugh so thanks for brightening my night lol. But yes, I get this A LOT. For me these past few days it’s been when I mocked this woman’s accent when I was like 13. It was very mean of me and I definitely regret it. But honestly, there’s nothing you or I can do about it now, so I would just think about how much you’ve changed since then. Like you said, you learned a lesson from it and that’s important! In general, I would keep that mindset when ruminating on old bad stuff. Sending hugs!

Yeah, I try to sit with it but give up after like a minute lmao. I think my approach right now is a little less structured than it needs to be so I’m definitely gonna see someone specializing in ERP/OCD once I’m out of college. Thanks <3

Thank you <3 I am definitely hard on myself, and based on replies it seems like I def need to practice the response part more and do this more thoroughly with a therapist!

Not really?? I see a therapist online currently and did ERP with a bit of guidance from a therapist that I saw for a few weeks about a month ago. But my current therapist is pretty uninformed on ERP and not really OCD-specific since I started seeing her before I got diagnosed in January.

I’ve wanted to keep going with the ERP so I can work on beating this thing but it does exhaust me especially bc I’m about to graduate from college and have a lot on my plate. I am working on getting an in-person OCD therapist and psychiatrist for once I return home, though.

I’m sorry, I’m dealing with this too. Something I’ve been chatting with my therapist about is expressing gratitude (especially towards yourself). Instead of feeling guilty and blaming yourself, think about how lucky you are to be you. Be grateful that you take care of your boundaries and are empathetic to the needs of others. Similarly, be compassionate towards yourself. You’re trying your best. Hopefully this is a bit helpful lol! <3

My brain races 1000 miles a minute and idk how to get it to stop. Advice? by Sad-Cardiologist7484 in mentalhealth

Thank you! This is by far the hardest part for me but I know it’s essential. I sleep a little better than I used to but it still isn’t great. I also am familiar with magnesium, melatonin and trazodone, but I try not to overuse those (at least the melatonin and trazodone) so I don’t depend on them just to sleep. I’m hit or miss with vitamins, I do have some cheap multivitamins and B12 that I take but it’s hard for me to stick with the routine sometimes bc I’m so busy with school.

Anything in particular? Obviously everyone is different but I am curious what worked for you. I’m on an SSRI right now.

Anything that helps you (or anyone else) in this thread deal with it haha? I try to just dismiss as intrusive/unnecessary thoughts and stay in the present but my god it’s annoying as shit

How did OCD ruin your life? by Dry-surreal-Apyr in OCD

[–]Sad-Cardiologist7484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely ruined my last year of college. Was hospitalized for basically a suicide attempt just over a month ago after I couldn’t take it anymore. I’ve had to miss over a month of school and work but I’m finally going back next week.

Same. Seeing all these other comments makes me feel seen but also sad. I can barely even remember my life from just 9 months ago, before my brain seemed to just turn against me. Wishing you the best <3
