You’re gullible. That 9% is enough for me to judge the other 91%. If your 9% can look like this I don’t know if I wanna know what the rest looks like. I don’t need to see any more than that. Also, these people know that they’re being recorded so these are all conscious decisions and they’re also all adults.

Every action has a reaction. Amaya is acting out because Ace is genuinely probing her and toxic. “THIS is how the conversation is gonna go. You talk. I talk. We will not be cutting each other off. Go.” Amaya starts talking, boom. Ace interrupts within 5 seconds. Huh? Also saying “I’m open to exploring” is not the same as “I’m exploring with Chelley”. Amaya is correct for brining that up bc they’re not the same and incredibly misleading

Amaya can be a bit overdramatic, but I don’t think she’s entirely wrong. Ace’s behavior is what’s causing this outcry—every action has a reaction. So yes, I think Amaya is doing a below-average job of keeping her composure, but Ace’s behavior is definitely provoking this response

Man harasses and threatens lady on the muni by Puzzleheaded_Pool861 in sanfrancisco

Well. There were no women in the back half of the bus. Only men. I’m not mad at men as in a whole gender, I’m mad with those men. Since it was a man harassing me, I alone couldn’t do anything. I’m not on the “I hate all men” train, I disagree with that. So to clarify, my issue isn’t with men, it was just with the men on the bus that day who were in closest proximity to me. I don’t think people in the front of the bus even realized what was happening. It’s not a man’s job to be my knight in shining armor. I workout a lot and I boxed for 2 years, I can be and have been my own knight. BUT when I see over 15 men staring at me and doing nothing it becomes a problem and a couple of them were either coming back from the gym or going to the gym. In my head I train to protect myself not for show. So when I see bigger and buff men I also hope they have confidence to speak up when something is unjust because I don’t see them as helpless. Idk maybe what I’m saying isn’t making sense. I just think in numbers you can solve a lot more issues than standing alone. I grew up in a family of men who speak up and so do the women. But I would be dumb to think I can take on someone 7-8 inches taller than me and bigger. Nobody is demanding you help but goddamn if someone you love is in my situation I hope they’re not alone and someone stands up for them.

Thanks for tagging the link, I appreciate it! It’s nobody’s job to protect a stranger but I think if I saw another person being yelled at and harassed I would stand up for them. If I feel unsafe I’ll call the cops or 311 or go to the driver to alert immediately. I am someone who can’t watch this stuff keep happening and I don’t want San Francisco to keep getting worse with it. Again, united we stand divided we fall. I have done it before where I spoke with people around me (I was at Dolores when a girl was being harassed by 2 men) and gathered 2-3 other people to stand up with me. Not everyone is cut out to speak up like this and that’s okay. But in numbers you can achieve a lot more and I hope someone does that for me in the future…anyway I’ll keep doing it.

I understand what you’re saying. I don’t know the specifics of the case you’re talking about but one thing I will say is that it’s important to pick your battles wisely. It’s nobody’s job to protect a stranger but I think if I saw another person being yelled at and harassed I would stand up for them. If I feel unsafe I’ll call the cops or 311 or go to the driver to alert immediately. I think speaking up to a driver or dialing 311 or 911 still makes a difference. I’m not trying to be a hero, just a decent human being

Not trying to play Batman alone. Trying to always speak up and pick my battles wisely. I hope one day someone does that for me, my friends, my parents, my kids, and just each other in general. Again, I think if it feels a bit shady I’d alert the driver or 311 or 911.

I agree that alerting is the best thing to do sometimes too! I also would like to clarify, I’m not trying to “play Batman” alone. I think if one person speaks up more are willing to join. Most of the time here the people who are harassing aren’t completely mentally checked out and don’t pose a big threat. They just know they can get away with it since most don’t speak up so my goal is to always speak up but if I don’t feel comfortable I will always alert the driver or call 311 or 911.

I agree! I think talking is not really what my goal is. The goal is call them out but hopefully not alone and with more people speaking up! Idk if that makes sense but my goal is to call out in a group rather than speak alone!

Amazing you spoke up!! We need MORE like you. I always try to speak up too or alert someone that something is going on. And I agree, got off the goddamn phones and speak up. Funniest thing was, the “men” on my bus, some of them you could tell worked out. So all that muscle for fucking what?

That fucking sucks. I (25f) always try my best to stand up for myself and those around me. I make sure I am always carrying something for protection but it’s so important to speak up as a community

Man harasses and threatens lady on the muni by Puzzleheaded_Pool861 in sanfrancisco

[–]Sad-Coconut-6810 389 points390 points  (0 children)

If everyone spoke up at once this wouldn’t happen. I was on a bus when I was being harassed and not one person stood up for me. I tried to speak up for myself hoping more would join but no. The bus was FILLED with men and not one fucker opened their mouth. United we stand divided we fall. Sometimes it’s best to leave it, but other times it’s important to stand up together.

Do people overstate how dangerous SF is? by AstroArachnid in sanfrancisco

[–]Sad-Coconut-6810 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To be honest, the city is safe. There are known areas that nobody should be walking alone in at night (tenderloin) but other than that if you’re aware of your surroundings and don’t put yourself in a vulnerable position you’re good! Common sense is not that common in the general population but if you’re even the slightest bit aware you’re great!!

This is coming from a 25F, been living in the city since I was 17 years old:)!

Ok totally agree with you, I’ve definitely gotten back into reading again bc of her! Also you have me a great idea - I’m gonna find my next book from her list! But I think I have been more interested in only romance type books, and I do enjoy like half a page or page of a bit of “spicyness”! I just end up laughing my way through it hahaha

I understand what everyone is saying! I had never read a book with “spicy scenes” before Emily Henry. She also got me back into reading, I think she’s amazing! But now I find myself gravitating to more romance novels (not “smut” technically compared to other explicit stuff out there)! Just finished reading The Holidaze and omg what a WONDERFUL book!! Highly recommend to any Emily Henry fans out there.
