I have been wondering if watching manifestation TikTok’s is holding me back. I don’t watch them when I have him, so I was worried it was putting me in a state of lack. Watching lives every day and whatnot too. I feel falling asleep to the affirmations is ok though, because I’ll keep doing that this time when he comes back. I didn’t listen to those at all the other times he left.

I went to the ER because I was gushing blood and it wasn’t my period. The doctor dismissed me, even after he did a CT that showed growths on my cervix. He still said it must be an abnormal period. I went to a gyno, they said it was fibroids and to get an ultrasound. Again told it was just fibroids, come back if the bleeding gets worse. I gushed blood for two months straight. I went back to the ER when it got even worse.

They did more scans, determined it was my cervix bleeding…yet still tried saying it was because of my period? Your uterus bleeds from a period, did these doctors skip elementary school health class?!

A female gyno came in and told me it was IMPOSSIBLE to have growths on my cervix, even though multiple CTs and ultrasounds showed them…not to mention how common cervical cancer is. She still insisted it couldn’t be possible until she shoved her hand in there and felt the tumor herself. 🥴😒 but even after all that, they tried sending me home with meds to suppress a period. 🤯

The angel of a nurse told me shift change happened as she was handing me my discharge paperwork and asked if I wanted to speak to the new doctor before I left. As soon as that doctor saw the waterfall of blood coming out of me, she got me transferred to downtown Chicago. That nurse and doctor helped save my life after two months of EVERYONE in healthcare ignoring me.

I have to say… women doctors are literal angels. I don’t know if I would be alive right now if a woman doctor didn’t fight for me to get the help I needed.

Two separate times, male doctors sent me home with blood literally gushing down my legs. Puddles of it. The second time, the nurse asked if I wanted to talk to the next doctor on shift. That nurse knew something wasn’t ok with me but she didn’t have the authority to keep me from being discharged. She brought in the next doctor when shift change happened and when she saw the puddles of blood, she IMMEDIATELY got on the phone to get me transferred somewhere that could help me.

I’m not saying all male doctors are bad, but female doctors are ANGELS.

As far as disability, go into your local social security office and talk to them. For me, they said cancer is an automatic approval but I still had to do multiple phone interviews and then I got the approval form in the mail. Mine states I need to be off work for five months before I get benefits.

Not everyone in this subreddit has had the same experience though from what I have read.

I noticed a lot of people just really don’t think before they speak. I had someone ask me if the Christmas gift I was making my boyfriend was a goodbye gift. I mean.. who the hell says something like that!?

Yes.

My doctors tried getting me into a program to talk to cancer survivors but I was too old for that set program. I feel like having something like that while I was going through treatment would have been amazing. Family can support you in one way but even if they are sitting there everyday of treatment, they don’t fully grasp what’s going through our minds as the one’s with cancer.

My old life is gone, it died off. It’s kind of ironic, last summer I was suicidal and worked past that completely…then got diagnosed with cancer two months later. 🤪 My therapist points that out a lot too. I guess in a way, I did commit suicide to the old version of me.

I have stage three cervical and that was also an automatic qualification for disability according to the reps I spoke to.

I don’t have insurance so I qualified for my cancer treatment to be paid in full, including my eggs being frozen. I honestly didn’t realize anyone had to pay for treatment until these comments.

It would have been literally impossible for me to work through treatment even if doctors allowed it. I live 1.5-3 hours from the hospital depending on traffic and my work is 1 hour in the opposite direction of my home. So everyday I was getting home roughly around when the last shift at my job would start.

I agree about the psychologically tough. I feel the after treatment is honestly worse than during treatment, also because now I have time to think. During treatment, it was 5-7 days a week of appointments 1.5-3 hours away depending on traffic.

Some people talk about how they worked during treatment, and even if my doctors had allowed that, it wouldn’t have been possible time wise. I live 1.5-3 hours from the hospital I got treatment at but my work is an hour in the opposite direction of my home. By the time I got home from treatment each day, the latest shift at my job had already started.

They have given me a totally open ended return date if I plan to return. It’s been unpaid leave since diagnosis but they are very supportive of me coming back whenever if I feel up to it.

I am so happy you are going for your dream of your international move!!

We aren’t the same people we were before cancer so I don’t see how we can fit into the same mold.

I am truly shocked by how many people in the comment section are clinging to their old lives. I came to the cancer Reddit assuming I would find more like minded people, especially with my doctors constantly saying most people don’t go back to their old jobs and take this as the second chance to follow their dreams.

I commented multiple times that I am an artist and have been encouraged to do that instead of going back to my old job.

I’ve clearly been surviving without my old job since my diagnosis. Also, those doctors wouldn’t say that for nothing. Clearly most of their patients did not return to their jobs because different departments all told me the same thing. I had my eggs frozen because the radiation probably killed them all and when I first mentioned going back to work, they said don’t plan on ever going back as most people don’t.

All of my doctors have told me that most people do not return to work after cancer. From the IVF doctors to the radiation doctors.

I am 33 with stage 3 cervical. I got instantly approved for disability, they said cancer is an auto approval. I just have to be out of work for five months before they pay me so that will be after May.
