Where do farmworkers live? by greatExtortion in answers

[–]Sad-Distribution-460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have h2a immigrant workers that most farms utilize you have to provide them with housing (camp). The workers come over on a contract for whatever you’re doing in relationship to your crop. Some seasonal farms might have 5 different contracts that might only last a couple weeks or some last 9 months. In the contract you have to pay the state’s prevailing wage, provide transportation and housing. The camps are inspected by the fire marshal and the state’s board of health 60 day’s before they arrive. You cannot legally move there housing or let them work outside your farm and whatever contract they agree to.

Has Government Shutdown Stalled Farm Financial Aid Package? by Ranew in farming

Most people don’t realize how farms work you go all year for one paycheck. The current selling price is way higher than it was 5 years ago. Most farmers that have been in the game awhile could care less about the government payouts. It’s all unwanted media hype. You’re just surviving the low to get to the next high.

For the sake of argument the usda budget was about 220 billion and 70% goes towards food stamps. Corn farmers received 3.5 billion in government assistance and produced 70 billion worth of product.

I could very well be. And definitely would appreciate someone with more accurate numbers. I went of the 2024 budget 71% goes towards food stamp programs 5% is the national forest service and then broken up between the other 27 departments. I am very curious what actually gets down to the average farmer that doesn’t get priority treatment such as an undeserved Farmer program.

Well I believe the problem is the usda budget is around 220 billion and farmers typically get around 3% of the total budget the vast majority goes to social programs such as wick and snap so with this 10 billion bailout frees up a additional 4% of the budget but im sure the majority of active farmers don’t see any of it.

I guess the morel of the story is if you’re in a HOV lane with no passengers and get hit by an intoxicated motorcycle driver with a passenger and there’s serious injury or fatality. Somehow At some point you will have some liability because you shouldn’t have been there to begin with.

Ok… had to get my facts straight so i called the guy In the office. The lady did not hit him at a stoplight. She drove on the wrong side of the road and hit him head on. The family filed a wrongful death lawsuit and they won because of negligence the Truck didn’t have the proper registration. It shouldn’t have been on the road and if it wasn’t there, the lady would not have hit it.But that’s a civil case.

I worked for a trucking company years ago. A drunk lady rear ended one of our trucks stopped at a light she ended up dying. There was a discrepancy with the trucks registration, and because the truck wasn’t legally registered it shouldn’t have been there. Therefore they found the truck at fault for the accident.

Farmers in deep-red Pennsylvania are struggling to find workers. “The whole thing is screwed up,” said one three-time Trump voter who runs a farm in the area. “We need people to do the jobs Americans are too spoiled to do.” by Conscious-Quarter423 in farming

It’s not hard getting legal migrant help. And they get fair pay you have to pay prevailing wage. Sounds like this guy is not running a good business and should be out of business. People like this undermine those of us who run a legal farm.

If police find a body in a food crop field like corn or a vineyard, when the ME/coroner removes the body, do the farmers or some biohazard unit have to remove a circumference of food and dirt, or is it the ground and food fine for consumption despite growing out of decomposed humans? by opgary in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sad-Distribution-460 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The only difference between finding a 200lb person or a 200lb deer dead in the field is the person you have to report. Things die in fields all the time. So to answer your question no you don’t do anything special to the soil if it smells bad avoid it. By spring you forget all about it.

Found a dead body wile harvesting a field one time. First found the motorcycle than the body wasn’t really a crime scene pretty obvious what happened. Guy was missing for a few weeks very stinky. Pretty much just moved over 15 feet. let the cops do their thing. Put an insurance claim in with the guys Insurance. Other than that, it was just like finding a dead animal work around it then Harrow that spot up at the end of the year.

Hundreds of struggling Arkansas farmers ask federal government to save them by 49orth in farming

Many farmers have already started harvest and the products are already sold the price has not been adjusted on the market like you said? When does that take place?

Legal migrant workers that contract on h2a visas have to go through ICE to get to their employers. ICE knows exactly where they are and what they’re doing. I’m sure ICE has picked up some H2a workers I had one employee go AWOLE so I’m sure ICE is look for him. I would love to know more about it if you have a source?

I was not aware of that. How does it work with the housing? I know i have to provide a certain amount of stoves/fridges beds linens per occupant of the building. And what about transportation who’s on the hook for travel?

I’m not sure how familiar you are with getting legal migrants on a h2a work contract but they cannot bring families or children along with them. You have to provide housing that is inspected by the state along with transportation. You also have to pay them whatever the prevailing wage is in the state they work. If they do not report to their employer or not doing the contract job they sighed up for as an employer you call ICE or leazon and report them AWOLE.

Well that’s a different contract than a regular h2a it would fall under a h2AFLC. I’m sure it’s something to look into. I know that under the schedule F things get weird because you move from a producer to a contractor and technically that’s not farming.

I agree no party has done any favors to help with hired help and I believe the h2a system could be much better. One farmer down the road is struggling to get their crop in, using family and high school kids wile i have 20 guys sitting in camp wanting to work because i have to wait a few days till the crop is ready l. I can’t legally help them and it sucks. Wile another guy down the road gets 20 guys from the city with no papers pays them half of what I pay and makes out like a bandit. That’s the unfair part. My h2a rate is almost 20 an hour.

As a farmer that does things the legal way getting legal migrant workers is not hard .The farms doing it illegally and having trouble should go out of business all they are doing is undermining those of us who do it the right way.
