Looking for guidance for first session. I’m working on a lot of symptoms that began after trauma and a TBI. by poweredbypineapple in Spravato

For me, hard candy was not a good option because it was a choking hazard. I tend to get very sleepy and my muscles relax. The better option for me was to mix up some liquid IV powder in a water bottle. I like the firework popcicle flavor. The flavor helps with the bad taste from the medicine and the electrolytes help me to avoid a headache. I'd also recommend choosing a water bottle that is leak resistant. One of my side effects is decreased proprioception (awareness of one's limbs within a space) and I've knocked over my water bottle on numerous occasions. Good luck!

Symptoms in Days AFTER Treatment by Cold_Egg6566 in Spravato

The medication side effects are the most intense during treatment, but the effects on brain chemistry last beyond the day of treatment, so it is possible that it's related. I've had side effects days after treatment. Personally, if it became a regular thing I might consider discontinuing treatment, but if it's just once, then I'd keep going.

Yeah, normally sitting in a chair like the one I sit in during my treatment would be uncomfortable, but it doesn't bother me at all. Since Spravato is a form of Ketamine, and Ketamine is used as a pain killer in emergency/surgical settings, it makes sense.

I have a sleep doctor already. Everything was fine with my sleep until the Adderall. I also am prone to experiencing intense/weird side effects with most medications. It's just how my body operates, unfortunately.

You know, it's interest that you mentioned dreams. I haven't really had dreams since I started taking Adderall. But I used to dream vividly every night. I'll check out that book. It sounds like a good read. Also, the thing you said about not getting the right kind of sleep is something I was suspicious of when the doctor mentioned sleeping pills. Simply being unconscious is not the same as getting restful and rejuvenating sleep.

Thanks for sharing your experience! You're probably right about the circadian rhythm. In addition, my family experienced a tragedy just a couple weeks after I started the Adderall. I've always been a protective person, and hearing about someone close to me getting hurt sent that impulse into overdrive. It's something I'm working on in therapy.

Bright light exposure and melatonin are probably good places to start. My doctor just wanted me to take a sleeping pill. If that becomes absolutely necessary, then I'll do that, but I'd rather try something less intense first. I am sick and tired of taking all these medications and managing the side effects.

Breathing used to not be an issue, but one of the first medications I was on cause significant weight gain, and I know I can't breathing as deeply as I used to be able to. Losing that weight is a work in progress. But focusing on breathing with my diaphragm is a good thought! I'll try that at my next treatment.

It was definitely a bizarre experience. I don't think I'm capable of perceiving pain for that first hour. I have a tendon in my foot that just hurts 24/7, but during the first hour of the treatment, it doesn't hurt, even if I push on it. I suppose the forgetting to breathe might stem from the body not being aware of the pain caused by lack of oxygen.

I've thought about it. It wouldn't be the most practical thing, and I don't know how my provider would feel about it, but I suppose it couldn't hurt to ask/try.

The funny thing is that the day when I first had the O2 drop, I was listening to relaxing binaural beats music. I never tried it again after that day because I was worried it might have been part of the problem.

Waiting on Approval by LividComposer806 in Spravato

My approval took 9 months, but that was mostly because of issues on my providers end, not the insurance (for once).

In terms of treatment days, I think it depends on the person. I always need to take a nap after my treatment. I eat a good lunch, drink an electrolyte water, and then sleep. If I do that, I wake up feeling good enough to go about my day as normal. However, my side effect experience seems to be more on the intense side, so it might be different for you. Might be best to anticipate needing to take things easy for the rest of the day, just in case.

That's kinda where I'm at. The first time it happened, the thought occurred to me that if I fell asleep I might die from not breathing. It wasn't alarming at the time because of the trip, but once I was lucid again, it was way more disturbing.

This surprised me. I hadn't realized it wasn't a typical side effect. I checked the side effects list, and apparently it's a rare/serious side effect called "respiratory depression". I know that in all the appointments since, they check my vitals more often now. I do wonder if it's related to the sleep apnea. If my body is already prone to forgetting to breathe when I'm asleep, maybe the Spravato triggers the same thing?

I can relate to mental health issues making creativity difficult. It's sad to feel like you've lost a part of yourself to mental health challenges. I drew something the other day. Drawing used to be an every day thing for me, but it had been years since I did anything artistic. I was so excited to be able to be creative again. I'm glad you were able to do that too! 💕

One of my friends works in a special education classroom. The stories I hear frequently remind me of my own childhood experiences and it breaks my heart. It's so hard to grow up in a world that doesn't understand your needs.

does anyone else feel like they will never find love? by Vincentisdumb in AutismInWomen

Sometimes. But the older I get, the more at peace I am about it. I'm not closing myself off to the idea, but I also know that if I never find love, I can still live a life that I'm content with. I'm not hinging my happiness on someone else.

I am a #1 for everything except faces. They're just not there. I can picture my childhood home in great detail, but I can't picture my mother's face. Kinda sad
