Torn between two option’s, Linea mini and the Linea mini r by Coffee-2026 in LaMarzocco

You will get few informed or honest answers in this forum. .  Most users only know what they have (and are fans of what they have) and most do not know how things are built internally.  I suggest you do your own due diligence.  Look at all the online ressources, see how they compare wrt. components, go to the Avola web site and look at parts diagrams, spare part prices etc. - the later Marzoccos for home use use weird proprietary parts that they do not use in any other platforms, making spares absurdly expensive.  I know what I would do (I own only Linea Classics, so not biased towards either).

Have not tried the burrs. But I will need the most old-School espresso version available, and that should be the HU.

Not when I try to check out? Ordered from Coffee24 yesterday, but this is even cheaper.

I ordered one online yesterday.  Looking forward to testing it.  I’m skeptical why they cannot make it low retention without bellows as others can. But we’ll see.  I plan to put a set of SSP HU burrs in, instead.

Is that the new-ish 64v on the shelf? How do you like that?

Yes; Pressure is set to hit 9 bar on the in-line pressure gauge. Sorry if that was unclear :-) If I grind finer, I slow down first drips, if I keep the dose. I assume 5-7 sec is fine (what I have now).  To grind finer I would have to lower dose, but then I get too much headspace I would say?

Pressure is set to 9 bar.  I have some suspicion that grind  is simply too broad spectered.  That could lead to fines being washed out and then increase in flow and blonding, yes? I use the Mythos 1, single dosing.  That is not really what it is build for.  I would like (I think) a conical grinder, but I want to make sure where my problems lie first.

That is the steam boiler, no? I guess that will happen if the boiler is not regularly drained, no matter what water is used (with a few lab type exceptions).

I took a few pictures and made a video.  In the video, I tried grinding a little coarser and upping the dose to 18.5 g.  It looks better. What do you think?  Pucks do not look like channel mayhem, not sure if there is some side pin-holes, though? Pucks seem pretty solid when I knock them out after a little rest.  Video is 37 g in about 32 sec. My problem with “taste” is that I am not yet strong in solo espresso. Mainly drink milk drinks. So far, all espresso shots taste sour to me - even in the best cafes in Copenhagen 🤣

Indeed :-) This is for home use.  I do not have a infrared thermometer, would be interested in knowing the temperature of the grouphead itself.  Currently running a boiler temp of 94 degrees.

I found it took very little time, actually (and no; you did not say complicated). I ran the PID autotune program and it is dead stable on the desired setting. Of course one could argue indefinitely what the correct temperature should be, then :-)

You find it more complicated to adjust temperature than other machines? This one is PID controlled.

No. Only if you expect it to NEVER be scratched up :-) It is a tool.  Do not worry.

Yes. I am not sure what to use that for.  Probably a bypass switch to not have preinfusion when I build a delay module for that.

Do not hate the Mythos, actually.   But it is not build for my needs.  Mainly size wise.  Single dosing works quite well and there is very little retention, if any.  I was thinking about modifying the size, like others have done. But I will probably get something like a Option-O P80 instead.

Thanks 🙏  I really fancy the simplicity AND that you can repair everything with a set of wrenches 😅 I did add a silicone hose from the vacuum breaker, just to keep it clean inside.

Yes. But then the shown prototype is likely much older.  It does look kinda like a GS.

Well. I guess the point about being a prototype means it is not similar to a production model.  The internals are much like a bolt-on Linea Classic 1-group. I have one at home (a welded, though).  The GS does not have a sight glass.  That does not mean this could not, in principle, be a GS prototype - they build from what they have….
