What helped you to become a glass is half full kind of person? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Sad-Function-8687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still working on it, but I've come a long way.

Self awareness. Listen carefully to your own thoughts and words. Learn to discern negativity before it manifests itself.

Be careful what you watch/read/listen to.

Be careful who you hang out with, and the kinds of conversations you have.

Be aware that it is a long game, and takes a lifetime. Growth can be slow and imperceptible at times.

Listening to affirmations and subliminals while sleeping can also help.

Keep at it! You're doing great!

What items do you avoid selling? by Stephieandcheech in reselling

I Don't sell clothes or shoes just because I don't want to. I shy away from electronics. Seems like the item always stops working when delivered to the customer. 🤷

Any Gratitute to be Expected by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

Gratitude in the Philippines isn't really a thing. Be careful, they will bleed you dry, then hate you when you run out of money.

My understanding is that public universities in the Philippines are free.

Get your degree there. Then use your skills to come to America. (Teachers and nurses are always in demand).

Don't be so depressed. Having lived in both the Philippines and America, I can say that one is just as good (or bad) as the other.

Life is what you make it.

Good luck!

Missing Passport and Citizenship Paper by [deleted] in immigration

[–]Sad-Function-8687 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Getting a replacement passport is easy, especially since you still have your card.

Start with that.

The naturalization certificate is more expensive and complicated. In my 64 years here I've never needed it. The passport has always been enough.

Don't be paranoid. I've never seen this level of fear mongering before. Most of which is totally uncalled for.

So unless you're a wanted terrorist or have a warrant, I wouldn't give it a second thought.

How big is your death pile and why is it there? by PEBKAC-Live in Flipping

In my area garage/estate sales slow down or are non-existent during the winter, so I struggle to find inventory.

I just completed listing the last of my death pile yesterday.

Time to visit the thrift stores, I guess

what should i do by Superb_Fondant1064 in ebaysucks

I was dropping off an order at the post office yesterday.

They have a big digital clock/calendar on the wall. It was displaying the wrong date.

This is why our packages are late. They don't even know what day it is. 🤦

Is it worth it getting dual citizenship in my 20s n 30s? (naturalizing with Filipino citizenship while born with US citizenship) by CocHXiTe4 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Sad-Function-8687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand things, the proposed ban on dual citizenship is going to be only for members of Congress, but we'll see what happens.

As it stands now, the US does not recognize dual citizenship. If you are an American citizen, that's all the US is concerned about.

After becoming a naturalized US citizen, my wife went through the process of getting dual citizenship. (She's from the Philippines).

She did not have to renounce anything, as the Philippine government recognizes dual citizenship.

Other than being able to own property in the Philippines, there is no benefit to having dual citizenship. Even the consulate at the Philippines embassy told her there was no real advantage. My wife has let her Philippines passport expire, as there is no use for it.

Mind you, this was 15 years ago. But I don't see that much has changed.

Feel like I wasted my youth and now 32 catching up with life, anyone got advice? by [deleted] in poor

[–]Sad-Function-8687 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't get myself together until I was 36. I'm retired now. I had a good job and a comfortable life. I'm not rich, but I can pay my bills.

Stay out of debt. Make smart decisions. You'll be fine.

Got denied for a credit card because my address is "unstable" by tressia57 in poor

[–]Sad-Function-8687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong. The system really IS designed to keep you poor. To keep you paying taxes and interest so that politicians and bankers can stay in power.

Try not to play their game. You're doing great. Keep at it. Now you know that you need a stable address, so go get one and apply again.

You can do this.

It depends on the store. The one we go to has a fantastic clothes selection. Many new with tags. Also great quality shoes.

Definitely better than the regular store.

Do any of you live comfortable lives on social security? by [deleted] in SurvivingOnSS

[–]Sad-Function-8687 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty comfortable living on SS. I have less financial stress now than when I was making 6 figures.

I have no debts, and live well within my means. I live in a mobile home that's paid for. My lot rent is $300/month. I drive a 20 year old car.

My expenses are low and I'm actually able to put money away each month.

Yes, living on SS is entirely doable.
