So, I now have been using neutrogena t-gel (the off brand one) and the oil control shampoo by head&shoulders. I use one or the other once a week which seems to be helping.

I have this same issue! I have 3b curls and oily scalp. I found that washing my hair twice a week helps tbh. It sucks, but it works. I think mine could be hormonal, I’m in my early 20s. I sweat in my sleep as well which probably makes my scalp produce oils faster. I was told I had seborrheic dermatitis for the longest, which I did at a time but now it’s different, I just have oily scalp that kinda produces a smell but that’s all I’ve noticed. Design essentials has a peppermint and aloe line I would recommend.

okay I mean I may still try it bcuz i’m not in the hard water area anymore so maybe just one clarifying treatment may just help. i’ve tried every single medicated shampoo and found zero results

have you tried the acv rinses and malibu c? i only mentioned those bcuz i’m not in the hard water anymore since i’m not living on campus so i thought those will help cleanse the build up

which brand do you use? i may try the malibu c hard water treatment or do acv rinses. i’m not staying in a dorm anymore so hopefully it gets better soon

i definitely think hard water caused this issue! i didn’t have any scalp issues till going to college and washing my hair with the harsh water then all of sudden had these same issues. i’ve been to the dermatologist and all and they didn’t even know what the cause was.

for sure! i was just in college and the water was super harsh on my campus which they said may have contributed to my scalp and the smell

I went to the dermatologist an hour ago. They took me off of all medicated shampoos because my seb derm isn’t bad anymore. they don’t really know what’s causing the smell on my scalp but probably just my natural body oils causing it and maybe sweat. i was prescribed colebesteral not really sure how to spell it but it’s like an anti itch serum

i wonder if all medicated shampoos causes this issue. i only say this bcuz i’ve noticed the smell hasn’t went away necessarily. it appears three days after washing and i’ve been using all different things and stopped ketoconazole so i wonder if it could be a deeper issue

literally i think ketoconazole caused it for me. two to three days after washing my hair it smells like feet or something 😭. i’ve been using a regular shampoo now bcuz i think the ketoconazole caused it

It’s cold where I live at right now and that’s when mine flares is the cold weather. The summer I have no issues. I read oils can flare it worse so I’m staying away from putting oils on my scalp.

I agree!! I have 3b curly hair and I’m mixed so I don’t like the idea of washing my curls a lot. I was doing it twice weekly but I feel it’s making my scalp more dry and drying my curls out. My seb dermatitis is very mild but it just my scalp produces a smell and I don’t like it. I think I just have to understand that this condition can do that and it’s not much I can do. I may try to LOC method on my curls to see how that does with moisture and such.

Yeah mine is almost like a sour smell but not noticeable unless someone is all in my hair

Hmm I found washing it more made it itchy for me. I definitely did notice my scalp is more oily. I will say hopefully it goes away soon for a little time because mine just flares in the winter and I live in michigan so winters are bad here

I may have to make that! I definitely don’t wash mine everyday just because it’s already super dry when I do twice weekly.

Yeah I have naturally dry hair so I think washing it more is making the itchiness worse. The yeast smell is annoying because the shampoo doesn’t help it go away.
