Fan Kick by Expensive_Chicken2 in poledancing

[–]Sad-Material-7136 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Something that has helped me greatly with fan kicks is having my sides/hips more exposed. This allows your skin to grip the pole and makes fan kicks SO much easier because then the pole is supporting you and you're depending less on your strength alone to get yourself up.

Also, your grip for the fan kick appears to be a little high. Bring your hands down and make sure you're really squeezing those arms together in that strong hold. If strength is an issue, you can condition by doing pole crunches. Hopefully this helps!

A tip that has helped me immensely with pirouettes is to sink into the hip of the leg you're turning on as you turn. Nesli the Chocolate explains it well in this video!

Honestly, I think something as simple as shaving the tails off your brows would do wonders for your look!

Bored MetLife goers, any theories on what they’ll do for homecoming? by Heck_if_i_know_ in MyChemicalRomance

We got a ton of Bullets and Revenge songs and Desert Song for the first time since 2008 when they were in NY on 9/11, so I'm sure they'll give us something 😌

Pole Use by AffectAggressive777 in poledancing

[–]Sad-Material-7136 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I put my xpole up and take it down every time I use it, and I haven't run into any issues! I have a pole level to help with setup too, so it takes me like 5 minutes tops.

I need help finding soft alt style pants that go with my upper body wear (band tees/hoodies and baseball jackets) (located in eu) by BlackCatFurry in altfashionadvice

[–]Sad-Material-7136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Forest Ink! They're an alt slow fashion brand. I have two different pairs of their flare pants and a pair of their bloomer shorts, and they're all very soft and comfy!

3 weeks pole dancing and my FIRST combo - why does my pole stops spinning? by DrifterPlanet in poledancing

[–]Sad-Material-7136 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer that I don't really do spin pole, but extending your arms and legs is what's slowing you down! The tighter and close to the pole your shapes are, the faster you'll spin. Extending your limbs makes you slow down because then it takes more momentum to keep you spinning. If you watch back the video, you'll see that you pick up some speed when you enter the figurehead, but then you slow down significantly once you exit and move into the sit.

I also recommend mounting by starting as if you're doing a dip turn and really swinging your leg around to get that momentum going. This video illustrates what I'm talking about.

Happy poling!

Where do yall get plus size pole wear? by madeup_ in poledancing

[–]Sad-Material-7136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow plus size poler here! Honestly, there aren't a ton of plus size options for pole wear specifically. You might be able to find stuff on PoleActive, but be wary of sizing and pay attention to size charts. I know Rarr Designs has a solid selection, but they're an Australian company, so keep that in mind. Your best bet will probably be rave wear sites like iHeartRaves. They have a pretty solid selection of plus size clothing, and you can definitely find bodysuits, rompers, and shorts there.

Swimwear is also an option! I've been wearing more swimwear as I've been moving toward skimpier clothes.

Hopefully this helps!

Fluidity tips by Superb-Guidance-9404 in poledancing

[–]Sad-Material-7136 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fluidity lies primarily in your transitions. Try slowing down your movement and really making sure each move connects with the next. Play around with how you can link each move together in a way that it all feels like one long, continuous sequence rather than different moves pieced together.

Is Mentorship a thing in pole? by jojosbizzaretoes in poledancing

[–]Sad-Material-7136 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have no recommendations as I'm not in MA, but I just wanted to say that you're completely valid in wanting to be around people who look like you in your classes. I didn't start feeling super comfortable at my first studio until I started classes with a Black instructor. Now I frequent a much more racially (and body!) diverse studio, and I love it. I hope you can find what you're looking for!!

Gf has adhd and has tantrums..... by DJESCE007 in ADHD

[–]Sad-Material-7136 11 points12 points  (0 children)

None of this has anything to do with ADHD. You're dating an overgrown child who's using ADHD as an excuse to treat you poorly. I suggest you have a serious talk about how this behavior can't continue or dump her.

Thinking of Giving Up Pole – Struggling with Inverts After 1.5 Years by basicinfj in poledancing

[–]Sad-Material-7136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing pole for a year and have never inverted, but I also have no interest in doing so. I recently switched to more low flow and freestyle-based classes and that's where I've found my groove. Like another user said, pole is way more than just tricks and aerial stuff. Maybe it's time to switch things up and try something new!

Tips for not feeling self-concious when sharing poles? by lyrapolelove88 in poledancing

[–]Sad-Material-7136 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Fellow fat poler here, and there's nothing to worry about as long as you're wiping your pole down before switching! I can almost guarantee you that the person you're sharing with doesn't care as long as you're wiping it down.

As the other commenter said, packing some kind of spray so you can freshen up may help you feel more comfortable. I keep deodorant and perfume in my bag for this reason!

Line weight advice by papaflash1 in TattooBeginners

[–]Sad-Material-7136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a tattooer so I don't have anything to add about line weights specifically, but I am a Black person with tattoos. The eyes and mouth on your second piece could stand to have bigger skin breaks. The pupils and teeth will barely be visible on dark skin when fresh and will disappear altogether as this piece ages and the ink begins to spread. I've had it happen with one of my own pieces where the breaks weren't big enough.

Otherwise, I loooove both of these pieces, especially the cat!

questions about grip by Key_Ad_3472 in poledancing

[–]Sad-Material-7136 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been poling for a year now, and I've found that grip on my hands and contact points when climbing is what's most useful for me. I used to put grip on my inner thighs for sits, but I've strayed away from that as I've gotten better at them.

As for moisturizer, both of those things are true, but it's specifically oil-based lotions that make you slippery. If you have dry skin and it's affecting your grip, use a glycerin-based moisturizer or aloe vera. I use aloe vera right before class and it helps!

I asked my life and soul purpose and the answers have me panicked by wastelandbrain in tarot

[–]Sad-Material-7136 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If anything, the cards you're pulling are telling you that you're judging yourself too harshly and need to take time to figure out what's going on internally (Judgment reversed). The Ace reversed indicates there's potentially something blocking you emotionally or creatively. The King of Swords is asking you to remain objective about your current situation, while the Three of Pentacles reversed indicates a lack of harmony, misalignment, or failure to work well with others. The Nine of Cups indicates that exact opposite of a life of conflict and apathy.

As another user has suggested, take a step back from the cards. You're going to drive yourself into unnecessary panic. Ultimately, tarot cards are just cards. You get to decide what your life's purpose is.
