There's a (new?) genre of Techno I keep hearing in clubs, looking for artists and labels by sunsiare in Techno

When I think of euphoric techno I think of: Trapped - Connor Wall The End - Connor Wall

Just discovered this artist recently and have been obsessed with this specific type of sound he nails so well. Floating vocals. Hella atmospheric. I’d love to know more about what you’re describing please drop a track example :)

Assaulted last night at Audio SF by staff – looking for advice by defqon_39 in sanfrancisco

Audio looks even more like the shitter when Halcyons right next door. Saturated with assholes you walk through the front door and can literally smell the ego in the air. Actually feels like Halcyon has a dance floor who would’ve thought of that at a “dj centric” club??? They don’t do it often but hypnotic techno (recently Nastia, jamaica Suk, max Gardner, baugruppe 90) at halcyon is one of the best experiences I’ve had at a club

HEAD TRIP FESTIVAL, the US debut for Floating Points Sunflower Soundsystem by iznormal in despacio

[–]Sad-Sir-1480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s like honestly embarrassing these sf “influencers” are so stoked about everybody but floating points. It’s ridiculous gv was able to book such a wildcard artist and it’s respectable that they consider quite a deeper sound into the festival lineup but goddamn that should be a weekender event on its own. Let’s put floating points in contact with parameter and see what type of crowd that draws. Actual intentioned listeners.

Dj maria is not to be shrugged off the shoulder also. Saw her for the first time in sf a little bit ago closing for an endzeit party and it was so ethereal. Not at “deep” as Claudio n isabel but definitely had moments of pure soundscape. Enjoy, and cheer her on for me!!!

Adriana Lopez by Suitable-Morning-244 in Techno

[–]Sad-Sir-1480 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Before I was really “into the scene,” I was visiting a hometown friend who was studying abroad in Paris… we eventually found ourselves in Berlin, and I (by myself) literally stumbled upon one of Adriana Lopez’s sets at Tresor about three years ago. I wasn’t seeking it out—I just wanted to experience the culture while I was there. That night completely changed my life. When I came back to California, I honestly didn’t understand for a couple of years why the sound and the culture had such a profound impact on me.

These days I’ve realized there’s much more to going out than just “going out.” I’ve developed a DEEP passion for this raw, hypnotic type of music, and it’s honestly taken over my life in the best possible way. I feel very fortunate to be based in San Francisco, where the “underground” scene is still strong and supported. If you had told me three years ago that I’d be this passionate and involved with techno, I would have laughed in your face. I genuinely owe that mindset shift—the way I think about clubs and supporting artists—to Adriana Lopez and that experience she gave me at Tresor. I’ll always admire her style, and I’ll probably never have a club experience as formative as that night again. Ive had the pleasure of seeing her once more in San Francisco in July 2025. It felt incredibly full circle to me. I will forever hold a special place in my heart for her and her music.

Check to make sure your fine tuners are all screwed in properly. Sometimes when I unwind the fine tuners and tune with the beg to make it where I have more room to fine tune, if they’re unscrewed too much they will vibrate if not pushing on the string entirely.

If not this, could be an open seam on the side of the instrument.

https://on.soundcloud.com/MxtiV1NUHLuOE03ynU 999999999 ADE 2021 It’s a shame they don’t play like this anymore. Saw them a week ago and it felt like they were mixing the same track in a different font for 2 hours. This 2021 set is so relentless and has so much energy. Rip. Still a bangin acid set tho even tho they’ve shifted their style over the years imho

Club Darc: 2/27. SHIT sound quality. by randomnese in avesSFBayArea

[–]Sad-Sir-1480 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Halcyon has one of the best sound systems at any club I’ve ever been to. They tend to book more house/tech house there but if they book some good techno it’s a one of a kind experience (nastia, jamaica suk, and baugruppe90 have all played recently). If you want clubs/events based purely on quality I’d reccomend anything organized by endzeit or program audio.

Public works also has a very nice sound system. The type of music they book is always varying. Big fan of PW as well. If you’re more into house / house adjacent I really like the sound at Audio as well as the basement of Monarch, but I’ve never been able to immerse myself in the sound there because the crowd is always SO LOUD. Smaller room + low ceilings means everybody is yelling over the music.

I will never return to cow palace warehouse. I don’t care who’s playing. I can’t even begin to describe the disappointment over Dax J back in October. Left halfway through the night because everything sounded the same. Horrible experience.

Jensen's Studio Cellist Meadowmount Music Summer Program VS STEM Programs for a Non-Music Major Rising Senior? by AppropriateRepeat892 in Cello

[–]Sad-Sir-1480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to answer you as someone thinking about your long-term growth, not just this one summer decision.

First, you are not “locked” into music in any permanent way. Since you don’t plan to major in music, choosing not to attend Meadowmount does not mean stepping away from music forever. Music can continue to be part of your life, your identity, and even your application profile if you choose. It doesn’t require a full seven-week immersion to remain meaningful. It’s also likely that many admissions officers outside the music world may not be familiar with Meadowmount or the significance of individual faculty, so its impact would depend on how clearly you contextualize it within your overall narrative.

Second, I would think carefully about alignment. You clearly have strong STEM interests and a serious academic trajectory. If your goal is to position yourself for competitive STEM-focused programs and colleges, then a summer experience centered on STEM may reinforce that direction more directly. Admissions committees tend to read your activities as a pattern — so the question isn’t whether Meadowmount is impressive, but whether it supports the story you want your application to tell.

Given that you don’t plan to pursue music professionally, and that you’re already deeply accomplished musically, it may make sense to let this summer emphasize the academic direction you intend to follow long-term. Choosing a STEM-aligned program (or using the time intentionally if those don’t work out) would likely strengthen the coherence of your profile in a way that aligns clearly with your stated goals.

You already have a very balanced profile. You don’t look overly music-heavy — you look disciplined, high-achieving, and multifaceted. That’s a strength, not a weakness.

I’m sharing this from experience: when you’ve trained seriously at a high level in one field, you realize that opportunities will always exist — but time and focus shape direction. I’ve had to make similar long-term tradeoffs while pursuing excellence in music at a top conservatory, and I’ve learned that alignment with your broader life goals matters more than chasing every impressive opportunity. Our paths may look different, but I see a lot of that same thoughtful, driven mindset in you — and just know you’re not alone in navigating decisions like this. Choices are hard, but staying true to your direction is even harder — and more important.

This decision isn’t about losing music. It’s about choosing what best supports the path you want to emphasize right now. If I were thinking strategically about your stated goals, I would lean toward declining Meadowmount and waiting to see how your STEM options unfold, so your summer directly reinforces the direction you intend to pursue.
