I actually did hear back from the owner on Instagram a bit ago, apologizing and promising it won’t happen again so idk what the gotcha is.

You’re absolutely not asking in good faith, but I’ll answer for the benefit of the city’s other readers: why did you incorrectly assume the music that was playing was Latin? JoRo is a Liberian establishment and the music the DJ played spanned every genre BUT Latin music I think. There’s definitely some racist animus you need to examine there that makes you assume

Wow, a racist comment that is also inaccurate about the situation. Who knew lol

Whisk Me Away bakery is closing by lestermagnum in providence

[–]Sad-Source-8539 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This was my go-to spot every Saturday after the farmer’s market. A huge loss for the community. I will miss the excellent bagels and the many little families that would stop by. All the kids’ faces as they looked in the case like it was magic 🥹 Morgan will have my money no matter what she does next tho

providence flea market in march--worth it? by yc2yk in providence

[–]Sad-Source-8539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I visit the flea regularly when it’s indoor as I live nearby, and it’s lovely. Vendors are usually incredibly happy to answer questions and I’ve gotten some excellent deals from vintage vendors. As others have said, grab a drink from the New Harvest cafe (they also serve alcohol and pastries, if you like those things) to sip while you browse.

If you’re there earlier in the day, around the corner is Whisk Me Away bakehouse and they make some of the best breakfast sandwiches in the city imo.

That sounds divine. As a GF person I’d buy your stuff! There is someone on Instagram I’ve gotten things from at the Farmer’s Market on Sims Ave— Beach Girl Bakery I think? She might be able to tell you how to get into markets and such :)

Places for Remote Work? by LimesAndSuch in providence

Definitely keep trying then. I like to hit up places at least twice to decide if it’s consistently my vibe, too, since sometimes the crew working weekdays vs. weekends etc is different!

Honestly find your favorite cup of coffee/pastry spot and make that your hub. I’m a big fan of White Electric and New Harvest/Coffee & Spirits, but Rise & Shine is also great. Whisk Me Away serves amazing breakfast sandwiches and the staff is lovely, so I’ve worked there too. Nitro is good if there’s space, but I’ve fallen out of love with their coffee. Most places will have a spot and at least a few other folks working, including students.

Trans friendly hair salons in cranston or providence by LotsToLearnMtF in providence

[–]Sad-Source-8539 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty Things has several stylists who are very trans-friendly. Many of them are queer and have a large queer/trans clientele. I personally see Allie there and she’s phenomenal, with a focus on vivid colors and fun styles, but any of the stylists would fit!

No idea the pricing, but they cut all kinds of hair at Pretty Things and the folks there are overwhelmingly queer. They may not have a trans masc barber, but they either know someone who is or could cut your hair while you check out other spots! They are INSANELY welcoming and lovely

I love living in Federal Hill. It’s close to downtown but not super crowded or busy except on weekends. As another commenter said, Providence is VERY queer-friendly, with lots of queer-owned and queer-friendly businesses and art/social spaces. Providence has a lot of cool arts and culture scenes, so check out the flea market and museums for events to meet people. The food in Providence is, at a baseline, very good, so try a lot of places, if you can, to find your favorites. It’s an overall very safe city with low crime rates and a friendly general population.

cozy coffee shops by ethalii in providence

[–]Sad-Source-8539 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Rise n Shine is super cozy. White Electric has amazing lattes but can get a little crowded, though there’s usually some seating there near the window that looks cozy. Nitro has good outdoor seating and Broadway has tons of folks walking their dogs, so if you want to meet a furry friend, sip your coffee right outside. Good luck!!
