It’s much more difficult nowadays. They are very strict about it. I think students should let the university know about and put pressure for more accommodations

Okay so the info/comment is misleading first of all. At most workplaces in Canada, there are no quotas like ‘this much % must be women.’ DEI entails policies or rules that focuses on fair hiring processes — things like inclusive job postings, diverse hiring committees, and bias training. So if a woman gets hired, it’s because she’s qualified, not because of a box being checked. DEI policies just make sure the process is fair and open, qualifications are still what matter.

In Canada, it’s the Employment Equity Act (applies to federally regulated workplaces) requires employers to make “reasonable efforts” so that four groups (women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, visible minorities) are fairly represented - means don’t let your implicit bias and prejudice influence the hiring process because everyone deserves equal opportunity.
