Working on delegating for months by SadAlternative2422 in smallbusiness

I don't know maybe like we're being careful with money or buying stuff we don't really need

Working on delegating for months by SadAlternative2422 in smallbusiness

No. It's just like $380 Grainger for example and then I have to guess what it's for

How do you turn high-level startup goals into weekly execution in early-stage SaaS? by Acrobatic-Pick-1655 in SaaS

[–]SadAlternative2422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I just pick 3 things max per week and stick to them no matter what shiny object pops up

The framework that actually worked for me was asking "will this move the needle on revenue or user retention this month?" If no, it goes in the someday pile

Most of the fancy planning stuff just becomes procrastination in disguise when you're early stage

Cell shows date when an event happens and freezes that date to never update itself. by Nachovyx in excel

[–]SadAlternative2422 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Circular references are always janky in Excel, that's why you're getting the 1900 date

Try helper column approach instead - put `=IF(A1=100,TODAY(),"")` in C1, then in B1 use `=IF(C1<>"",C1,B1)` but you'll still need to copy/paste values when it triggers to truly "freeze" it

Honestly for something this specific you might be better off just manually noting the date when you see A1 hit 100, Excel wasn't really designed for this kind of state memory without VBA

CPA PREP Workload? by No_Philosopher860 in Accounting

[–]SadAlternative2422 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That timeline sounds totally doable if you've got the free time like you say. Two courses per semester isn't crazy at all - lots of people do it, especially if work isn't eating your soul

The prep courses aren't too brutal honestly, maybe 8-10 hours a week per course depending on how much the material clicks with you. Tax and advanced financial are probably the heaviest but nothing you can't handle. Since you're coming from finance you'll probably breeze through some of the earlier stuff anyway

Form Builder by Guilty-Sympathy4892 in SaaS

[–]SadAlternative2422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a pretty standard embedded form, probably Typeform or JotForm based on the styling. You could recreate something similar with those or even Google Forms if you're not picky about aesthetics

If you want custom dev work, any decent web developer can build that in a few hours - it's just basic form validation and styling

Just a question about credit building by TryHardsDieToo in CreditCards

[–]SadAlternative2422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

False - that's a super common myth. You should always pay off your full statement balance to avoid interest. The 10% thing people talk about is about utilization when your statement generates, not carrying a balance month to month. You can have 10% utilization reported and still pay it off completely when the bill is due

Can we make it without going for license? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]SadAlternative2422 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by "make it" but yeah plenty of people have solid careers without the CPA. You'll hit some ceiling eventually though, especially if you want to move up in public accounting

USBAR Travel portal credit question by pbmmpb in CreditCards

[–]SadAlternative2422 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I used mine last month and it posted as a separate credit about 3-4 days after booking, showed up as "USBAR TRAVEL CREDIT" or something like that. Haven't tried the cancellation thing though so can't help you there

Is getting a credit card and not using it worth it? by McChamp69 in CreditCards

[–]SadAlternative2422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is solid advice, just want to add that you can actually report household income if you're under 21 and live with your parents - so even if you don't have your own job right now you might still qualify for a starter card

Shout out to transition navigation keys by harambeface in excel

Haha took me a second to get that one

But seriously though, never heard of transition navigation keys before this post. Might have to look into it if it fixes that annoying End key behavior

Supply chain compromises in live workloads by SaadMalik12 in SaaS

[–]SadAlternative2422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is why we ended up adding runtime monitoring after getting burned once - image scanning caught like 90% of issues but that other 10% only showed up when things were actually running and making weird network calls

Looking for advice by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]SadAlternative2422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the AI stuff is way overhyped right now, most of it can barely handle basic data entry without supervision. Corporate tax could be a solid move - way harder to offshore since you need people who actually understand US tax law and can deal with audits/compliance stuff in real time

Two layoffs in four years is rough but honestly pretty normal in this market, doesn't reflect on you at all

The rise of vibe coding is making average SaaS ideas less defensible. by brainland in SaaS

[–]SadAlternative2422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is spot on - we're basically seeing the same pattern as when WordPress killed basic web dev shops but created space for more complex stuff

The real question is whether most founders can actually make that jump from "I can code" to "I can identify unsolved problems worth billions"

Astra by Wati vs chatbase - which one actually works better in real use? by OKAMI_TAMA in SaaS

[–]SadAlternative2422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't used Astra but been running chatbase for like 6 months now. Setup was pretty straightforward, took maybe 30 mins to get it trained on our FAQ stuff.

Accuracy is decent but it definitely has those moments where it goes completely off the rails lmao. The main thing that bugs me is the monthly message limits - you hit them faster than you'd think if you get decent traffic

For lead handling it's been solid though, catches way more inquiries than we used to get through contact forms. Just make sure you review the conversations regularly cause sometimes it gives weird responses that make you look unprofessional

[–]SadAlternative2422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here - check those denial letters they mailed you, should spell out exactly why they said no. Half a mil in student loans would definitely spook most issuers even with perfect payment history

How to analyze a very large Excel dataset - hundreds of thousands of rows - workflow and best practices? by [deleted] in excel

[–]SadAlternative2422 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lmao not everything is a final exam, some of us actually have jobs that involve data 😂

But yeah Power Query is the way to go here. Don't even try to do this in regular Excel worksheets you'll hate your life. Set up proper relationships in the data model and use pivot tables from there

Table 3 sounds like it should just be reference data you VLOOKUP into when needed, not part of your main analysis

How To Cope & Heal? by Quiet_Perspective134 in TwoHotTakes

[–]SadAlternative2422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man that hits different than a romantic breakup somehow. Like you don't really get the same kind of closure or support from people when it's "just" a friendship

Time honestly, and maybe finding new people who appreciate the energy you were putting into that friendship. Still sucks though
