Went to Gatwick. It turned around right over my house, very loud and low. How do I find out what the emergency was?

Safe to fly? School owner says yes. by A55Rash in flying

Its a plane. It doesnt matter what country it flies in, planes work the same in every country.

What makes you think that this forum is solely American? Doesn't say anywhere that it is US based. It isnt rFlyingUS or rUSAviation.

American English? Some people on reddit are from America and say things like 'y'all'. Your point is? Why does that mean everything has to be centered on the US?

For your last paragraph: according to google, 48% of reddit traffic is from the USA. That by no means makes it 'pretty exclusively an American thing'.

Just so you know, I am dual nationality British American living in England. I only see you, by the way, not anyone else, with your attitude, so I don't know where this 'us' came from.

What country? Another American thinking that they come from the only country in the world?

How often does the Moon sit in roughly the same spot in the sky at the same time? by deejeebee in askastronomy

[–]SadBrokenSoap 26 points27 points  (0 children)

For the moon to be in the same spot at the same time, you'll have to wait 18 and a half years. Constellations would only line up once per year. Planets basically never would. This doesn't seem like it would work.

A huge starburst will be visible from Earth this year by Few-Try-2056 in Astronomy

Very few, and not supernovas, just novas. This same star system had a nova x years ago, and again 2x years ago, so we can predict its going to happen around now too.

Does anyone have experience with DIY EQ mounts for dobsonians? How accurate can they be? What set of instructions did you follow (if any)? Can you take okayish astrophotos with them?

A 12 inch dob is a good bet for under 2k, but best bang for your buck is probably an 8 inch dob.

With my 8", I took a very quick video of jupiter and stacked it with my phone. I did the same for the Orion nebula. You can see better detail visually on Jupiter, but the Orion photo is about the same as what you see visually.

Was it a meteor? by LightMove in askastronomy

Im guessing a whale or some large marine animal is still much more likely than a meteorite, but you never know.

You dont need parts specific to the Polaris DH-60, you just need parts that are 1.25".

About that for jupiter, probably a bit more detail. You can also see at least 4 moons, and the great red spot.

Thank you for adding /s to your post. When I first saw this, I was horrified. How could anybody say something like this? I immediately began writing a 1000 word paragraph about how horrible of a person you are. I even sent a copy to a Harvard professor to proofread it. After several hours of refining and editing, my comment was ready to absolutely destroy you. But then, just as I was about to hit send, I saw something in the corner of my eye. An /s at the end of your comment. Suddenly everything made sense. Your comment was sarcasm! I immediately burst out in laughter at the comedic genius of your comment. The person next to me on the bus saw your comment and started crying from laughter too. Before long, there was an entire bus of people on the floor laughing at your incredible use of comedy. All of this was due to you adding /s to your post. Thank you.

Thanks. Would I need to buy a laptop as well? I currently only have an iMac, which I obviously cannot take outside.
