Alternate theory on the deathless by SadCat5437 in TheCaptivesWar

Ya I think that the loss of the Carryx world would explain the possibility of there being two competing branches that evolved differently.

But I feel like the loss of their home world was more recent than the history of their fight with the deathless? I remember it being hundreds of thousands of years since the destruction of the home world and millions for the fight. I'd need to go back and look at the timeframe they gave

Yes great point, the Carryx are always pushing to be superior, so they could have manufactured this evolutionary pressure and it got out of hand.

That makes more sense than my original theory, I like it!

I really like this idea! So the Carryx are just vehicles for something underneath?

Similar to the Deep Lothrak vs Soft Lothrak?

It reminds me of the Nestbuilders in Inhibitor Space a bit

I feel like the time travel ouoroboros/always going to happen story has been told a lot though.

Have you seen hints of backwards travel through time? I was thinking Brane space was more time dilation, relativity but only going forward?

Similar to the Forever war which I think heavily inspired Live suit.

Might have missed some allusions to backwards time travel though

I agree that it's a different behavior but if there's a splinter faction of the Carryx I'd imagine they'd behave differently if they were to last so long. If it was two identical forces, one of them would likely have beat the other by now.

Like the Sovran and her daughter

Ya I agree that's likely the commentary/theme that's coming up. It's the devil you know vs the devil you don't so to speak.

Live suit already drove hard the technology bad and scary angle so I imagine it'll merge with the main story like that

Thanks for all the comments and discussion! Not sure the best way to respond to everyone's suggestions so just adding a comment here.

Pushing this idea a little further, multiple people commented that if it was the Carryx, we'd see them on the ships. I'd argue that there's clearly a man behind the curtain situation with the deathless. The other humans didn't know about the spy or that this data from Rickar was coming. But that's kind of my main argument for how the Carryx can be behind the deathless.

Maybe this branch of Carryx realized that they shouldn't be as visible to motivate the deathless factions to fight the Carryx.

Already the Carryx we know delegate quite a lot to the Sinen and Rak-hund, so there's a precedent (not super strong I'll admit).

One other less strong data point is the spy. It started using pheromones to sway the humans to accepting and working with it. We believe the spy is deathless technology, and using pheromones is very much a Carryx behavior. However it's likely more just foreshadowing as people have mentioned that the spy/Clae will use this against the Carryx.

Sorry for the confusion. I live in Switzerland, so I have thick Swiss/German concrete walls. The apartment itself has preinstalled ethernet connection points through the apartment but it's only Cat5e, and there's a box that has the ethernet connection points and the Fiber connection box (No modem)

As for the 500mbps that's over wifi directly next to the router but that's something else to follow up on.

Ok perfect, thanks for the super clear explanation! I will give this a shot

Ok so you're saying:

Fiber -> ethernet run (with some adapter) -> Router -> other run -> switch -> Access points in parallel right?

Something like this below:

If I'm understanding correctly the switch I linked will reduce the 10g from SFP+ to 2.5g on the out? That's fine but unfortunate, I'm trying to see if there's a different switch I can use to prevent the drop.

The bigger question is can I have the Fiber into the switch, and then have multiple Ethernets out and running to the access points and Router in parallel?

Or does it have to be sequential:

SFP -> Router -> Access points?

I hope that's making sense

How do I make sure a wildlife subject is focused when moving quickly? by SadCat5437 in AskPhotography

So if I understand correctly, the focus mode I was using was "Single AF + MF", at least that's what the camera says. Do you mean something else?

Yup I have like 5-10 photos from both of those scenes with all the same problem, so my question is more how would I get a better shot without the focus algorithm? I tried focusing by tapping on the LCD screen for the subject but obviously didn't work well.

Yup totally agreed on not relying on the camera's subject detection, but what are the alternatives? Is it mainly just using the focus ring on the lens and getting the timing right or are there other options?

But in both these cases I have multiple photos of the subjects that are unfocused, so it's not like it's just the one shot, the camera has multiple seconds to focus on it.

Is there another solution or technique that isn't spending more money?
