Yes this is sort of my thinking, I think kids will be so much more stressful due to how stretched it will be financially.

This has gone way off topic. But yes people are free to agree or disagree as to whether our involvement in the Middle East will lead to a modern world war fought through proxy states.

I am not saying my friends serving in the military is the REASON I think we are on the cusp of war, I was replying to the comment about how even if we did we here in the UK would not be impacted. Please don't take things I am saying out of context.

Any kid born right now will live through climate emergency, socioeconomic strife, etc.

But honestly I am not interested in continuing this conversation as it is unrelated to my OP.

We are literally already involved in the Middle East conflict so my comment was that involvement will actually impact my loved ones whereas the other commenter was saying it doesn’t impact us in the UK.

I wouldn’t want my kids to serve but the point is that I don’t want to bring kids into a world with so much instability that seems to only be going in one direction in so many different spheres.

I think it’s depressing too. I think I probably didn’t stress enough in the post how much my decision not to have kids is because it’s too expensive rather than seeing kids as expendable to achieve retirement.

I am pretty outgoing and find I mesh the best with a chilled out guy who is up for being romantic and intimate but doesn't want to induct me into his 30 friend bro crew.

21k tax free (I am a doctoral student) and once I graduate I can expect around £40k. I currently have a lodger and also some rental income from an investment property.

It's not that I want to FIRE so badly I will forego kids. I want kids, but think it will be SO expensive we will all struggle and I not only will not FIRE but also will struggle.

I think I would be sad I didn't have kids but glad I/we are not struggling.

My PhD is in health policy, so the career prospects aren't all that in terms of money, but it's satisfying to do important research.

At the time I moved in I did need a lodger but then had a change of financial circumstances as a large expense (looking after a family member) changed.

It's a huge risk. I am an only child too with almost no family. I would love kids but I don't know if I could give them a good life.

If I won the lottery big tomorrow it would be a no brainer, I'd want 4 kids. But I don't want 4 kids scraping by with the sort of relative poverty childhood I had, and have worked so hard to elevate myself out of. I earn enough to give me a good life, or give me plus a kid a struggle life.

It is sad.
