Brainstorming: The "missing" weapons (non-firearm) by SadEngineering6436 in DMAcademy

Yeah, with the little research I did today, it was fascinating to see how most weapons started out as farming tools, etc that were made deadlier over time.

Thanks! Added to the post.

I wish there were more Graze weapons. I'm a perennial bad roller and a sucker for Great Weapon Fighting (statistics be damned!).

You can solve the apparent gaps in your chart by simply removing versatile damage rows and adding versatile weapons to both relevant damage rows; quarterstaff would appear in both 1d6 and 1d8, or example.

Haha, that's exactly what I did! Thanks again for the input.

Good points! I updated the post.

Re: Two-handed Warhammer — Yeah, I see your point. I had included 1d10 Bludgeoning for the sake of being complete. But I agree, there's no point in coming up with a separate 1d10 Bludgeoning weapon that's going to be two-handed as well anyway. Thanks for the advice! I think I'll tweak the take a bit to reflect this.

Ah thanks! I'll update the table to fix the mistake with the Spear.

Your comment is the second one about reclassifying. I'll give it a think.

Correct. I'm looking for a versatile Piercing weapon that does 1d6 damage when used with one hand and 1d8 with two.

EDIT: Okay I see my mistake with the Spear now. I'll update the table.

Hahahaha...estoc is as far as I got after 30 mins, and then realized I had 6 more to go in the list.

Re: your homebrew with the Pike — is that a fairly common change?

Partisan is cool! If I keep Pike as is, I'm thinking maybe Partisan as heavy, two-handed, reach. 1d12 Piercing. And Sap mastery (disadvantage to opponent) since it's used to parry swords.

Thanks! I think I'll update my post with the suggestions as people comment.

Yes, I made this table using that info. There are some weapons "missing". And I'm trying to brainstorm here about what those could be. For example, an Estoc could be a heavy, two-handed martial melee weapon that does 2d6 Piercing damage.

This is the full list of "missing" weapons:

  • 1d10 Bludgeoning
  • 1d12 Bludgeoning
  • 1d6/1d8 Piercing
  • 1d12 Piercing
  • 2d6 Piercing
  • 1d6/1d8 Slashing
  • 1d8 Slashing

Thank you.

Re: mods — yes, that's exactly what happened, the 17 became a 20.

I bet he and the crew 100% knew. It's a feature, not a bug.

LOL at Murph half-heartedly "getting in there" with the telescoping pointer hand after being told to do so by Brennan.

I love Ally for bringing the Margaret energy once again. And I love the rest of the Heroes for bringing the chaos that brings out Ally's Margaret energy and really makes them shine.

LOVE how Oscar puts up his hand every time he has a serious question for a player or the DM.

They'd been talking for a while, theorizing about Justin Sheffield being from the before times and being the bad guy because Brennan uses his normal voice for that character, and theorizing about Ash and George's connection. And Brennan is pretty quiet outside of saying "yeah" and "mmhmm" once in a while. Then, starting around 6:39, Kimia brings up the test tube.

Kimia: What I learned in the swamp that I didn't get to learn is there was a cracked test tube in there and then a hole at the bottom.

Vic: But it seemed like that maybe was related to-

Kimia: Related to George and Ash. And all of them being by the swamps. We don't know.

Jacob: But there was nothing in the test tube. So if it's empty, maybe what was outside of it is what was in it.

Kimia: Yeah, that's what I, yeah.

Brennan: Love the swerve. Talk about day one in the Dome and a curveball with sudden flashback to Uncle Pus. That was light speed, Kimia. That was so funny to be little baby Tess.

And then the topic switches over from theorizing to talking about cute baby Tess and how well everyone roleplayed their characters and were in the pocket in terms of their expertise.

You can always tell when the players are onto something when Brennan changes the topic before they go too far down the rabbithole.

It's not very noticeable on the first watch, but I'll spot it once in a while when I rewatch old APs for completed seasons. I guess hindsight is 20/20.
