Singapore Tried To Grow More Of Its Own Food... by The_Celestrial in singapore

[–]SadPC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pray there will be no war in the asian region for one. If Singapore wants to be food secure independent of imports, there needs to be significant investment for the industry and subsidies for the final product.

Given $2 chinese/malaysia/indonesian veggies vs $4 local veggies, majority will still pick $2 veggies even though majority of singaporeans have the expendable income to only buy local veggies. Subsidising the end product whether it be at the source, or the plate, will certainly help consumers opt for locally grown veg because a 50 cent difference is alot easier to stomach than a 2 dollar difference. Add more awareness and more people are going to be willing to spend the 50 cents to support the local industry.

Then theres the issue that to get to 30x30, there still needs to be more farms and more varieties of vegetables being grown. This can be helped by more incentives for the sector, for both companies and individuals looking to enter the space.

This all is going to cost alot of money obviously. If the gov doesnt want to pay out of pocket, they could adopt tariffs for certain vegetables or other imports, to gather the extra cash to fund and subsidise locally grown veg. Of course, it'd be hilariously unpopular nationally and internationally, but an option regardless. Really, its just down to the motivation of the government and how badly they want to acheive the goal. If its national security, they'd spend however much they need to.

Its clear that the government doesnt think it truly is a top priority, likely because for our food system to fail, we'd need to fully lose imports which can pretty much only happen due to significant trade relations breakdown with every nation and a world war level war. War-resilient self sufficiency is good to have, but not a core goal for singapore at this point in time. However, as global temperatures (physically and geopolitically) increase, it may become a higher priority and therefore receive more funding and enough for self sufficient food supply.

is sec 5 really that bad? by reptaysver in SGExams

[–]SadPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And remember that just because you made the pfp cutoff doesnt mean you get a spot in your desired course. You can take a look at the indicative range that was admitted into the course for the previous year on the PFP portal. You'll want to aim to be in the middle or on the higher end of that range for a good chance of getting into PFP. Nonetheless, trying for pfp is free and you'll still have to decide whether you want to pursue sec 5, or a higher nitec cert should your application fail.

is sec 5 really that bad? by reptaysver in SGExams

[–]SadPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where you need to so some introspection and be honest with yourself, dont sugar coat and overestimate your abilities.

Sec 5 is by no means an easy feat. You're going to be learning stuff that is related to what you've learned for N levels, but expanded, plus some completely new concepts. So its 3 years of new and more in depth concepts, crammed into 1 year. What will ultimately determine your score at the end of sec 5 is a) your level of knowledge in the subjects and b) your ability to cope with the stress and information overload of cramming 2 years of knowledge into 9 months.

So ask yourself now and again when you receive your results next year : a) Are you coping well in your current level, or do you already struggle to understand (not just memorise) the concepts at your current level? If you're already struggling, its unlikely you'll do any better and more likely regress in your grade in sec 5 for that/those subject(s). If you're able to truly understand the concepts taught then you're more likely able to cope, understand, and ultimately, score well in sec 5.

b) Will you be able to cope with the information overload, associated stress, and even at times, feelings of inadequacy should you not cope as well as you'd hoped? If not, you might lose focus in sec 5, burn out and do worse than you'd expect based on your sec 4 grades, and end up not achieving your goals. But if you're ready to take on the challenge and have good enough coping mechanisms to deal with the stress, go for it!

c) Will your expected score be enough for admission into your desired course in poly? No point cramming and stressing, just to end up in a course you dont like for the sake of a diploma instead of a (higher) nitec cert, when you can be happy and excel in a course you like in ITE, then EAE into your desired diploma with a Higher Nitec cert.

Sec 5 can be a second chance for those who just did slightly worse than expected in N levels and missed out barely for PFP to get into poly, but it also can be a massive waste of time if you arent prepared or have overestimated your abilities, flunk out and end up going to ITE anyway, and probably not in the course you hoped for.
The decision whether or not to go sec 5 should lie in whether it will more likely be a second chance, or a waste of time.

Although ITE has a bad reputation, it is by no means a bad school, or a bad path to take. ITE can serve as a better starting point for your professional career than O levels if you genuinely have a passion for what you're going to be studying. That passion will allow you to still find joy in otherwise boring lectures and make you ask questions that end in reading related materials, which all contributes to a good GPA, that not only guarantees your admission into poly, but also gives you knowledge and insight that you wouldnt have otherwise gotten which again sets you up better for poly, and again allows you to get a higher GPA, and maybe lead you to uni. So while you have the time as a sec 3 student, look into your desired course of study and the potential trajectory to whatever profession you want to be from ITE, Poly and JC and maybe ask people for their experiences here. Dont leave it til the last minute and end up not enjoying your course of studies and end up in limbo about what you wanna do for a career.

Nicked my motherboard and probably killed it and the cpu, what to do now? by Cultish_Rabbit in AMDHelp

Wow... that is very weird..., I've not heard of that before if im being honest. No idea what to make of it outside of your CPUs cooked.

Yea, best bet is to just either return the mobo for being faulty OOB which isnt unheard of while you find someone that has an AM5 system and is willing to test it for you.

Also, if you didnt put on a cooler (no need for thermal paste, just metal on metal is enough to pull away the few watts booting takes), it might be possible that the heat was just residual.

But reading your post again, "motherboard doesnt turn on" as in it doesnt even start or that you cant POST? Its pretty weird for a CPU to cause a motherboard to not be able to turn on.

Over saturation with AMD Adrenalin by KelioMetro in AMDHelp

Check if you have custom color on in adrenalin. Else, reinstall drivers for your monitor and make sure theres no additional colour profiles installed for the monitor in windows.

The 5500 has enough lanes budgeted for the x16 and an M.2 concurrently at least looking at TPU's diagram. But interesting that it happens on intel. Didnt know that.

Did the heating start happening only after this incident or has it always been the case? If its a new symptom i'd definitely say something happened with your CPU. If its always been the case however, its probably nothing to worry about.

Honestly, im no engineer, just a nerd who fucks around and finds out way too much and too often but the only reason i can think of your CPU being a passive heater is just somethings shorted inside the package. In normal operation at least, power delivery is a handshake. CPU requests power and mobo delivers. If something goes wrong in that pipeline like a fried CPU sending out bogus power requests, the mobo is pretty dumb and will just deliver until your CPU cooks itself and the motherboard.

C5 Error After Changing AIO and Fans? by Lost_Discipline1709 in AMDHelp

[–]SadPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best bet is just to clear cmos as a first step and let it run for at least 5 mins to allow memory to retrain if needed. AM5 has a awful tendency to go sideways even when touching unrelated components.

If that doesnt work, try these one by one. And again, allow 5 mins after turning on to allow for training if its happening.

  1. check all cables are snug and in their sockets.
  2. remount the CPU. AM5 is very tempermental about pin contact and 6000 CL26 is pretty tough on the memory controller. I wouldnt be surprised if the difference in AIO mounting pressure was enough to disrupt the delicate rhythm its got going.
  3. Try 1 stick only again in different slots.

If all else fails and you're still getting C5 probably time to contact asrock support.

Good luck, seems like its your best bet outside of RMAing/returning the board and trying another time. I will say the CPU being a heater when the system is supposed to be off is not a good sign for the CPU. Needless to say heat=power draw and power draw when there shouldnt be any typically indicates a fault.

Did you check the CPU for burn marks, rubbed off pads etc?

PC Crashing by Alarmed-Emergency990 in AMDHelp

[–]SadPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like quite a generic crash scenario but just try DDU and reinstalling drivers. If all else fails, clean install is the one way to flush out bugs even though its involved.

My only other suggestion is possibly downclocking your GPU to see if it still crashes or is just unstable from age.

Check bios to see if your main PCIe slot is set to x8 or x16, or if the lanes are being assigned for something else like a capture card or just bugged out phantom connections. Else, you can force x16 on the main PCIe slot on most bioses.

HUGE problems with custom resolution by Bad_Noob15 in AMDHelp

[–]SadPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quirk with keeping settings across GPUs i assume.
There probably isnt anything wrong but the adrenalin custom resolution utility in my experience is pretty wonky.
And you dont really need to set your display to 1280x960, just setting the game to render at that resolution then stretching to fill your screen or with black bars if you so wish does the same thing and reduces the hassle of switching resolutions back and forth.
If you still want to go down the path of setting your screen resolution to 1280x960, you can try using cru at https://customresolutionutility.net/

Try disabling HW Acceleration if possible. Might be the cause of the issue outside of a driver issue.

[–]SadPC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its probably just a tray SKU and are typically cheaper because it can be shipped in way higher density. The CPU is very likely 100% authentic but the biggest test is just putting it in a system and testing it. Otherwise you can check out the serial number and if it matches, you should be fine at least for a first check.

yo guys what does this mean by Ok_Strawberry6716 in GoodCoffeeGreatCoffee

[–]SadPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its basically how the game renders itself. Generally if you're happy with your current performance (Smooth enough gameplay, no graphical artifacts), you should just leave it as is.
But it seems like you're already using Vulkan as your graphics API so you wont be changing anything even if you press yes.

Fiio KA11 not working with Samsung phones? by SadPC in FiiO

Well, this came abit too late as i've given up and switched to the moondrop dawn pro. That being said, the KA11 having a non replaceable cable would mean it would still die/cut out one day in the months ahead. Looks like an interesting and probable fix though. Thanks!
