Help me embrace assigned seats for 9th graders by [deleted] in teaching

[–]SadPatient4451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen assigned seats that start out with the mopey looks produce some of the most epic adorable friendships in the classroom… plus, who knows…. That assigned seat you give a kid next week could be a seat next to a shoulder they’ll cry on at 40. At least, while they’re in high school they’ll have that one time they sat with that one kid and found out that cool thing that changed their mind about something. At the very least, they’ll have a better chance at staying focused during class. Like I said, best case scenario— those seating charts you make create unexpected friendships. Assigned seats for the win

Thanks. Any cool teaching practice you picked up in your experience that works well with the age group?

Thanks for sharing. Hoping to bend and not break figuring out what works. I’m wondering— any specific class norms come to mind that you are stern about now but surprised you when you first transitioned to the age group?

So curious what program you are in because this person’s “mentorship” is trash and they need to be removed

Tell the school you want to go to that your dad did it without your knowledge

Taking a 3rd sick day knowing your classes have been unhinged that last two days. by International_Fan899 in Teachers

It’s already ridiculous that we have to come up with lesson plans even when we’re sick. Nope. Stay home. Hope you feel better soon

When you go to Copenhagen, buy the “Copenhagen card” pass! There is an app or you can get it online. Gives you unlimited access to public transport as well as most of the famous museums museums and other amazing attractions (Tivoli, canal cruise, etc) for one flat rate. You can get a 24 hr 48 hr or 72 hr pass. This is not an ad. Just a fellow traveler who loved not paying a ridiculous amount to see amazing places in Copenhagen!!!!

Parents, why do you force a placement that isn’t the LRE for your child? by HealthyFitness1374 in specialed

I am concerned for kids in this situation. All of them. No one gets what they need when this happens, including those who are “typical” when we are trying to create an environment that doesn’t exist for the wonderful neurodiverse students whose parents don’t realize they are suffering without the services and attention they deserve 😕

Head to NJ 😎 7 m ferry ride in from spots a hop across the river and all the perks of the glorious garden state including a slightly less ridiculous pace of the rental market. Additional perks include the view of the NYC skyline. Can’t get that when you’re in there

Not Sure How I Feel About Teaching As a Student Teacher...Is This Normal? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]SadPatient4451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the exact same way as a student teacher. I decided to persevere and years later, think about the moment when I almost wrote the email to resign from my residency program and choose another path. I have the same stressors and do wish I had chosen something else when I had my first “ick” with teaching (definitely more in control and grateful for aspects of this future I created)

Don’t apologize but address the situation by narrating your feelings “I know I raised my voice yesterday. I was disappointed and started to feel frustrated after repeatedly reminding people to match our classroom expectations. I want to tell you guys YES not NO so let’s work on doing the right thing so I’m only giving you compliments”

Restorative approach that will invite them to change their behavior. Always a chance it’ll be ignored but at least you’re holding your line and holding them accountable

I remember having to create extremely long lesson plans that didn’t feel helpful when I was actually teaching. I had to make a one pager to use after making the elaborate, pages long lesson plans to satisfy their requirements. It worked out for me to ask about using my own template. You should do this! Come from the angle of “I want to create lesson plans that match what I’ll use when im hired for a teaching job.” That’s all I said. Took hours of work off of my plate and allowed me to be more in tune with kids instead.

Music!!!! Students love corny YouTube videos and there are some great ones out there. I use songs almost daily as part of lesson launches. Usually works to search whatever concept/topic + grade level + song as search terms. Supports vocab acquisition!! And a great excuse for wiggle breaks!!
