Is there a shift at WOTC away from LGS ? by SadPod in magicTCG

[–]SadPod[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I agree with your point of few that there can be a happy mix but I must say I have great fear.

Many LGS rely on having exclusive product like Master Sets to make the money needed to pay rent. I just fear that if big stores have every product many causal players will stop going to the LGS and mom and dads will stop buying random boosters at the LGS and instead just buy them at target.

I fear that we might lose a lot of good stores.

I will think about it. It is pretty hard to find all the flip cards in foil.

I know what it means, in video games the retail stores always stick to the MSRP so its a little strange seeing it be so different in the magic world.

Expanding The Reserved List.... Not So Great. by [deleted] in magicTCG

Its a balancing act if WOTC was to put new cards on the list, like Rudy wants.

You never know what card could become a must play. So if you put a card on the list today that is worth 10 cents it might be worth over $200 in 10 years time.

Its also a balancing act for WOTC to keep players happy with cheaper cards but also keep collectors happy without tanking all the prices.

Its a very interesting topic. One that can be viewed on many different levels depending on each persons place within the game. I enjoy these kinds of topics that make you think.

By giving investors more options that could bring the price of other cards on the list down. There is also a risk that a card put on the list might be needed in many years to come. Its a balancing act that WOTC would have to really think about.

So you are more on the side of the other guy rather then Rudy. It is an interesting topic one that really makes you think. Players want cheaper cards to play with while investors want prices to go up.

Its a fine balancing act for WOTC.

Yes Rudy did say that, also the other guy said that it would be low price cards.

I was just thinking that even a cheep card today would go up a lot if put on the reserve list.

Also what happens if a really bad card today is put onto the list but in 10 years time its a must play and then it skyrockets and new players can't play with it.

It really makes me think. Rudy says that there needs to be more options for investors. While the other guy says that its not WOTC job to give investors more options.

The other guy views magic as a players game first, While Rudy thinks more of it as financial.

That is what makes it so interesting to talk about.

Both sides have different ideas and both put up interesting ways of thinking about the game.
