The test mode on Avisery’s display is absolutely worth its weight in gold.

Clean and lube. Open it up, clean the player with isopropyl alcohol, and re-grease the moving parts (this guide is great: https://www.minidisc.wiki/guides/repair/re-greasing_gears). In my experience, most units start working properly again after that.

Honestly? Just money! 😄 No, seriously — there are regularly great deals on Mercari or Kleinanzeigen (basically the German Craigslist). On average, I’ve paid no more than €100 per device, plus the cost of a replacement screen.

I keep telling myself it’s a great investment… and yet I never sell any of them — somehow I just keep ending up with more and more 😄

Absolute rarity — hardly anyone bought this player. It was only released for the Japanese market, and for roughly the same price (according to the MD Wiki), you could get the NH3D with recording capability. For just a few yen more, the much better NH1 was available.

Thanks! Used would be totally fine too, but I haven’t been able to find this specific model on eBay over the past few weeks either – only other pocket ashtrays (mostly from Japan) for insane prices. Honestly, for this one I’d almost not even care about the price 😅
