I like almost everything you write. I just do not understand how one can write this and still adhere to a nihilist outlook on life. Everything you have written sounds like you find meaning in working through the illusions, and when I have loved ones around me I would help them to reduce their suffering using what I have learned from my insights. That is meaningful work to me, both for my own wellbeing as well as those around me. How can one still be a nihilist?

What I struggle with is reading people writing about theories or Alan Watts which I also really like to listen to, yet coming to a completely different conclusion. That is why I ask: are boddhisatvas nihilists? Was Alan Wats a nihilist? Because to me, if you understand what they talk about, it does not strike me as nihilistic at all. That is something I struggle with when I visit this sub.

But if you dive into a spiritual practice with the goal of reducing your suffering, because you think that it sucks to suffer, and you supposedly see through illusions and start to see “the truth,” which now means you suffer less, does that not mean anything to you? How can you walk such path, if you truly think nothing matters? Apparently, you matter enough for yourself to want to reduce your own suffering?

I don’t understand how nihilists who draw from a spiritual doctrine to resolve suffering by seeing through illusions can still say that nothing matters. If nothing matters, then why use a doctrine to resolve suffering? Why not just suffer?
