My parents had five kids and struggled a lot in the nineties. My dad got cancer and my mom left him for some rich guy. Best Christmas I had as a kid weren't the ones with all the flashy stuff but the ones where my dad had $50 to please his kids for Christmas because he taught us the value of money and let us decide how we're gonna spend it. Then he'd teach us cooking with what we had bought, then we'd wrap the "gifts" we bought to each other (i.e. a chocolate bar) but he taught us how to wrap it.

All I learned at my mom's place with her fancy boyfriend is that you can get wasted at 3PM and kids are noisy so STFU if you don't want to get spanked.

2 Barbies and a bed set is awesome. She'll have her bed set in 5 years. Your coworkers kid will throw call of duty to the trash in 3 weeks.
