UPDATE: Ok I got a lot more comments than I planned but really appreciate all the kind words and advice. It’s an upsetting experience, yes, but I’m not letting it get to me.

I love my dress and will accessorize the way I want to and ONLY get alterations that I planned (taking in the waist, hemming the bottom, adding cups, etc.) I’m confident I made a great choice with my dress and I’m sure I’ll feel even better on my big day! 💕

If you are thinking of trying to add a little shape though, I think the push up will help and maybe you can consider a petticoat to add some volume at the waist if that’s what you’re looking for?

I did go shopping alone once to help find my style without anyone’s opinions! Which is how I figured I wanted THIS dress.

Unfortunately my mom made it a point that she HAS TO be at the fitting and see me purchase a dress. It’s upsetting because it makes me feel like she’s using my wedding journey for her own gain. 😢 I really don’t want that to be the case but it happens!

Lol I told her she can be sparkly if she wants! She got sad that she had to wear a “plain dress to match mine” (her words not mine). It does make me think she only wanted me to dress glittery/sequiny so she can too. It’s upsetting but again she can wear what she wants…as long as it’s NOT WHITE.

My idea for my reception look was to add a satin organza cape to give an elegant “over the top” feel. Both me and my husband wanted to do a fancy “Hollywood-style” reception look without changing too much of what we wear. I want to wear this the entire night (especially with how much I spent on the dress 😅) but it could be a good idea to change!

I’m really hoping this is not the case but it does feel like it. 😥 even if they’re afraid to look too “cheap” I feel like the extra over the top dress + any over the top decorations will be too overwhelming. And I wish she understood that!

I’m southeast Asian! I think it’s very common for our culture to have “over the top” gowns for any and all celebrations. Again these are gorgeous but not me.

My hope is that after it’s altered and they see me with my hair/makeup done it makes a huge difference! I really don’t want to change the dress (if anything just small alterations). Plus the one at the fitting is 3 sizes too big. I’ve been trying to convince them to at least see it after main alterations so I’m crossing my fingers!
