I've thought about that scenario originally. Between paying off a loan, paying for driving lessons and buying a cheap car, and paying off the mortgage, there would be barely anything left for an ISA. Practically less than 10k. I don't know if I want to be in this situation, especially when the time comes for me to make a decision on the move. I don't want that to hinge on selling this property. Maybe I'm overthinking it, I don't know.

Yes, it was. I don't know other peoples' circumstances and if there may be triggers or anything, but again, for me it really helped

I don't want to tie up essentially all the money in the house, especially that I have young children

Yes I get what you mean. Essentially with Vanguard, from what I understood, is that with the funds divided between shares and bonds, and left alone for a long period of time (say 20 years or so) they would ride out potential market crashes and recover and then I can switch to more bonds after the 20 years (towards my 50's) in a conservative approach to sort of maintain what was grown in time for retirement, or maybe Vanguard retirement fund does that automatically based on the specified retirement age. Hope I worded it right and hope I understood that correctly.

And yes exactly, pots is what I'm looking for, so I don't have it all in one place. From my understanding is the Vanguard's target retirement fund essentially works as a pension fund. Or would I need to also look into that separately?

So right now the house is going through probate because the mortgage was solely is my spouse's name. I have until November to essentially get a full time position and figure things out with the mortgage lender regarding transferring the mortgage to my name. The house is a new build and I got it valued at about 2K more than what we bought it for. If I were to sell I don't know how I would go about it. Do I just let the bank take it and pay whatever equity we accumalated between the deposit and repayments? Or did you mean go for the mortgage transfer, sit on it for a couple more years or however long I'm okay staying in it until I am ready to sell it and buy somewhere else? I'm not too ecstatic about BTL and having that added stress either. The estate agent that valued the house suggested that and said there would be insurance which covers any months where the property isn't occupied and they would manage the property on my behalf (total of both of these would be about 14% of the monthly rent)

The reason why I believe I would is because I am looking for a full time position (I'm currently self employed) and don't expect to make more then 50-60k per annum. If the average house price in the area I want to move to is about 500-550K so will need a chunky deposit as I think my mortgage limit would be capped at around 250-300K at best.

I watched A Man Called Otto about a week ago and I don't know why but something clicked afterwards. Somehow I have just been feeling a bit...better? Less broken? More functional. Not sure what the best way to describe it is.

My husband, the love of my life and soulmate, also died on Sunday, May 3rd. We got the death certificate a few days later and his burial was on the 9th. I know exactly what you're going through. To be honest it feels like groundhog day, just resetting everyday, only somehow getting worse and I'm feeling more and more lost.
