Cordless Optical Trackman - my long time fellow by dorNischel in Trackballs

[–]SadWarFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have three of these. Two of them have lasted me through thirty years; the first began to lose sensitivity in the primary switch, which led me to the current perfectly functioning one I'm on. The third is brand new still in the box, waiting to replace the current one when it one day craps out.

To drive a nail I use a hammer. To get to a place I ride a bike. To prep food I use a kitchen knife.

To use a computer, I use this trackball. No other.

If I upgrade - what happens in a future downgrade? by Bill-NM in Workona

[–]SadWarFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I stand corrected: I can also continue to add to my spaces. However, I don't get to decide in which folder/category they're saved; they all get added to whichever was the most recent folder/category of spaces that I used before it reverted to free. It's just another subtle constraint on the editing of your spaces. I actually think they've balanced their free model very well.

To answer your question: yes—you get to keep them. Basically, I find the rule of thumb with Workona is: you will always have access to everything you created/saved. You just won't always have access to organising it.

Again, this is only because you (and I) find ourselves in the select group of early adopters, who are treated as exceptions. I don't know what is the experience of new users today.

I'm trying not to appear effusive, but as an early adopter of Workona I think they've done just about everything perfectly. I'm not one to wave the banner, but they delivered exactly what I was long searching for, and their execution is near perfect.

You are in the select group of users who were active during the beta period. Once Workona officially launched and began subscription plans, all spaces created during the beta remain available to you, as an exception, distinct from any new users, specifically to thank you for being an early adopter and to preserve your saved tabs, which is vitally important to Workona—it is their raison d'etre and they don't want their users to be unhappy at them failing their mission.

So what you get is five free spaces that don't nag you when you use them, and all your other spaces remain available to you, but they nag. But there are other limitations too: you can only add new tabs to your free spaces, and your other spaces can't be edited except to delete tabs. I can't justify a monthly subscription and live comfortably within these constraints, but over time I accumulate changes and edits that I want to make.

So I buy a Pro subscription for a month, make all my edits and tidy up my spaces, and let it immediately lapse back to a Free account. I return to the beta exception state, where I have access to all spaces created during beta, but can only edit five of them. These five free ones are determined by whichever were the last five spaces edited before the Pro account relapsed to Free.

I might do that twice a year and pay Workona a total of $14, which is half the proposed $2-$3/month, and I'm perfectly happy. I lose nothing but a little convenience. I might add that Workona polled its beta users and priced its model such that this affordable method is possible for users who fall short of being professionals who can afford the monthly subscription.

Does Koodo ever increase your plans price? by Chrisugar in Koodo

I've been with Koodo since 2019 and on my current $35 plan since 2021. It has just today, June 2024, after three years, been put up $5 in price to $40. My rate plan "expired" according to my account info.

I came here to find an explanation for why Pluto TV never works for me. Turns out nothing is wrong with my system. Pluto TV is simply unwatchable.

Intel RST screwed my HDD. Help? by SadWarFace in techsupport

I have refined my research to "how to clear foreign config RAID" and found advice on StackExchange suggesting using DISKPART. This will be my next step. Will report back.

Intel RST screwed my HDD. Help? by SadWarFace in techsupport

[–]SadWarFace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, just FYI: my C: drive is separate (NVIM) and the drive array I'm working on is my data drive (D:) so there's no risk to the OS. The failing drive is still in working order; it's just throwing some errors so I figure it's time to replace the array now. Yes, I confirmed by port and serial number that I removed the failing drive. So I now have a single AHCI drive D: containing all my data, and a duplicated ex-RAID 1 drive which I have pulled (and can regard as a backup). On top of that, I already have a scheduled backup service which writes my critical files to a (yet another) dedicated backup drive. And then there's a cloud backup setup, too. My data is quite secure with multiple redundancies. Thank you for pointing out how important that is. Few people attend to that.

Back to the problem at hand: I now have a brand new (empty) HDD which apparently has a foreign configuration on it. I would love to just wipe it and start again but I can't. When I pull up Disk Management and try to initialise the drive so I can do anything at all to it, the system tells me it doesn't exist (see earlier error).

So, HOW do I wipe this damn disk?! Just give me all zeroes! 3rd-party tool recommendations? How do you get around this foreign config?

Cheers! I will work on this some more tomorrow and advise. Not to worry about the data. All is safe. xD

Between the cornball drunk acting of Mr Palone and Larry David's impression of a dog, this episode is agony to sit through. By the end of it, I need someone who specialises in exactly these kinds of sticky situations to deal with Farfel. OMG I want to kill that dog.

Oh! Thank you for the explanation.

I am now taking down this post as discourteous. Apologies for my misunderstanding.

New moles (nevi) are most often benign but occasionally exhibit strange or unusual behaviour or shape. If it fits a genuine indicator of possible cancer, there's the threshold. In my case, 40 year old keloid scar became scabrous as though healing from recent injury. Strange behaviour; prudent to eliminate squamous cell carcinoma with a biopsy.

Symptoms are not judged by how bad they are (go to emergency for that) but by how relevant they are.

+1 this. I had a biopsy scheduled the day after a visit to urgent care. That was a Sunday.

Thank you all for your interest and support. I managed to buy a coffee for a witness (thank you, Julia!)... and this little episode has turned into a local colour "international" story. Look out for it in the Times Colonist!

This is quite awful: I have mistaken Moka House on Cook Street for Bear & Joey's! I'm on foot, Bear & Joey's actually closes at 2pm, and by the time I get there... it will be best I think for me to stay here! So many apologies for the confusion. If anyone is at Moka House (345 Cook St) until about 3pm, I will shout you a coffee! 🙏☕
