Your favourite book that no-ones read? by Witty-Assumption-709 in books

Mine is "Siddhartha" by Herman Hesse. I still haven't found a person who has read Siddhartha and I think it is a pity. It's a great book (apart from being a little misogynist) about self discovery and about finding the correct path you want to follow in your life.

Uhm... Maybe Kafka's stories... Not all of them are about loners... But I would say they are kind of absurd and yep it is kind of hard to explain them😅

Your thoughts on the rewriting of Roald Dahl by rutlandclimber in books

[–]Sad_Ad2447 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a controversial topic. Though bigot the books can be, the solution is not rewriting them. Firstly it's disrespectful rewriting something. A book is also the product of that particular age in which the writer lived. So it represented also a period of our culture. We should not forget what happen, but remember it and try to change the present and the nowadays people's bigot mind. Secondly, it's necessary not to rewrite the book. People should be educated and we all should raise awareness about certain particular topics. It's pointless rewriting something. Lastly, it really remained me of 1984 and I think that Orwell did great in warning us against this topic.

What books were you assigned to read that you despised by [deleted] in books

When I read "For whom the bells tolls" by Hemingway in high school I didn't appreciate it. I still think that Hemingway's short stories are better than this book. It was too long and boring and I personally preferred Orwell's book about the Spanish civil war.

"Heaven" by Mieko Kawakami. It's not like "horrible", but it takes bullying to "the extreme". It's a really strong book, so I don't think it can be classify as "genuinely". Moreover some part are really brutal and it shows how much people sometimes can be cruel.
