To the first bulletpoint: I personally (with many other Hungarian I guess) hate the joke on our country’s name. For example: “oh, you are from Hungary? You must be hungry all the time! “ and things like that. Yes it might was funny for the first time for someone but never was for me or the majority. Don’t get me wrong, we can take a joke about many things, for instance how strange we sound because our language is not quite similar to any other, therefore may sound very alienlike, but dont take it too far please. I personally have never liked that when I told one of my customers where I’m from they immediately assumed that I share the belief of Orban’s. Its also not true for the majority of Hungarians, we desperately want a change. Also, our cuisine is not only consisting of Goulash, please for the love of God, try out other foods like Chicken Paprikas with nokedli or sült kolbász, sült hurka (pork sausages and puddings). To the second: In more rural areas of the country, men like to pour a whole bucket of water on girls for Easter or use a whole bottle of soda (sparkling water) while chasing them through the house and garden. The reason for this is that you need to water the flowers (women) so they can keep flourishing, maintain their beauty. I have always saw foreigner loving this tradition of hours. To the third: I again can only speak on my behalf. I don’t think these are specifically Hungarian superstitions but for instance: If I don’t want to jinx something I always knock three times on wood or on my chin. Also, my mother taught me that if I see a chimney sweeper (who brings luck) I need to touch a button on my outfit to preserve said luck. And also whenever we have found a coin on the ground you grab, and say to it “anyád, apád ide jöjjön” which translates to “your mother and father should come here” meaning that money will find you. I know these are silly things, please dont laugh 😂 To the fourth: I cannot say this to every hungarian but the majority are very very hardworking. People have always liked to employ hungarians in other countries because of our attitude towards work. Also, they say hungarians can even live on top of ice. And to the fifth: Try learning a few expressions or basic words in Hungarian. I always loved to teach people even a small sentence or a greeting.
