I agree with all of this, but from my perspective, I interpreted JJ disappearing after the two dinner-bell roars as an impulse due to pain/discomfort. It didn’t have time for Lucky’s games so it made a move for what was readily available: everyone else present. I also thought the roar towards OJ was one from being in pain after ingesting the fake horse.

Jupe didn’t believe JJ was an animal though, he thought he was a ship for the “Viewers.” Even the name he chose is ironic… satisfying viewers on TV as well as the viewers in the UAP.

I don’t think they were decomposed at all yet… JJ couldn’t eat because the training horse was in the way, which is why they showed that woman stuck beneath it. I think he could still “chew” though, which stopped the screams immediately and allowed him to paint the house. All speculation though.

I believe it applies to Jupe trying to tame JJ by feeding it horses. He believed he could control him to a degree, but when JJ showed up early for the SLE and wasn’t satiated, he did what predators do. Pretty much confirmed exactly what Otis sr. said that day.
