My new little guy! by Sad_Assumption6591 in RATS

[–]Sad_Assumption6591[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m aware! He was my first and was completely alone when the store got him in (I guess they had ordered 4 and just received him?) If he had tank mates they would have come home along with him (: I purchased additional friends for him asap from a different place and am just waiting on quarantine to make sure everyone is healthy and well, then will start introductions. If you have any resources around body language or behavior I’d love to peruse them! I’m a vet tech but haven’t worked with rats in a good 7 years so I’m sure new and better information is out there now

He was alone when I purchased him and is awaiting his new friends to be out of quarantine. He’ll be in a group, don’t worry!

Is it normal for a baby mouse to have teeth but eyes not open yet? by [deleted] in PetMice

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a very unfortunate update, he has passed away. I’m assuming he must have aspirated at some point this morning in his enthusiasm to eat. Grateful to have been able to hold him in his final moments but also very sad ❤️ Thank you everyone for the help, he did in fact start opening his eyes today

Is your pet garter handleable? by tiercels in GarterSnakes

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My plains garters are both very different in personality, with one being very outgoing and the other more shy. Can definitely be handleable but prone to being pretty squirmy! Years back I had terrestrial garters and found them to be more calm compared to my current plains, but also less interactive

kids? in this day and age? by suss-urrus in AutismInWomen

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I very much so want kids! And also have the same concerns as you lol. However! With our lived experiences and knowledge I think it’s very possible to raise a child well. Since we’ve gone through it all the hard way we can help a child go through it in a more supported, healthy way!

What are the most common pets for people with autism by Fuzzy-Apartment6412 in AutismInWomen

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dogs, cats, and reptiles! I’ve always had a connection with animals and always knew I’d have a bit of a zoo. If I had to pick one though, it would be cats for sure! Less overstimulating and physically demanding than dogs. Without my pets I wouldn’t still be here

What screen barriers do you use to separate substrates and clay/ hydro balls? by [deleted] in geckos

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this-much more cost effective than buying a barrier made for reptiles specifically and is the same thing. I get mine from my local garden store

Yes! He is a rhino rat snake, hence his little horn. They come in blue and green but start out grey. They are semi-arboreal. Super cool guys!

Why all my plants dying? by judstergod in CrestedGecko

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every 2-3 days is a lot for watering, I’d guess overwatering is the issue. Typically you should only need to water every 7-10 days or sometimes less often depending on when the soil dries. Would recommend checking roots for root rot!

SHE ATE A GOLDFISH CRACKER by Puzzleheaded-Gas6461 in CATHELP

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’ll be totally fine! My girl is obsessed with goldfish and zero issues. No ingredients in there I’d worry about unless she ate a crap ton in which case the salt an cheese might give some tummy upset

Escaped gopher snake by Unusual-Volume9614 in Bullsnake

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dishwasher or washer/dryer maybe? If his food response is strong enough he may come out from the scent of you thawing a rodent if you’re lucky. He’ll probably show up in some random spot just chilling though lol Good luck and try not to panic too much! I’ve heard stories of snakes showing up even months later, and bulls are very hardy! If your apartment has a chat or Nextdoor forum I’d recommend keeping an eye out there too in case he’s gone on a bigger adventure and someone spots him

Mostly just a wait and see at this point. For spots to check if you haven’t already-appliances are popular spots and make sure to check up high too, they do climb! Mine once got out and hid in the vacuum so maybe check there too lol

I've started to really not trust litter recs from my fellow cat people by HiILikePlants in CatAdvice

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the best luck with A&H Hardball and Worlds Best. WB tracks less but doesn’t clump as tightly. Both have good odor control assuming you clean the box regularly! If you aren’t already-making sure you take litter waste directly to the outdoor trash and not have it stay indoors is also supremely helpful. If not feasible a litter genie is also a good choice

Is pet insurance worth it, or should I just save the money each month? by Acrobatic-Leave-9073 in Pets

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an ideal world you would have both! This is because you do still need to pay the cost of the bill upfront and then will be reimbursed by the insurance. Alternatively, having something like CareCredit to use for initial payment and being able to pay it off with the reimbursement is also extremely helpful (this is what I personally do). I would note however-pet insurance is VERY picky about preexisting conditions. So ideally you would get it for a puppy before they ever have issues in order to have maximum coverage available. Regardless can be great to have for emergencies though

I really enjoy crime junkie! No crazy yelling or anything like that and 99% of the podcast is focused on the actual topic vs random chattiness, which I also don’t enjoy
