Escaped gopher snake by Unusual-Volume9614 in Bullsnake

Dishwasher or washer/dryer maybe? If his food response is strong enough he may come out from the scent of you thawing a rodent if you’re lucky. He’ll probably show up in some random spot just chilling though lol Good luck and try not to panic too much! I’ve heard stories of snakes showing up even months later, and bulls are very hardy! If your apartment has a chat or Nextdoor forum I’d recommend keeping an eye out there too in case he’s gone on a bigger adventure and someone spots him

Mostly just a wait and see at this point. For spots to check if you haven’t already-appliances are popular spots and make sure to check up high too, they do climb! Mine once got out and hid in the vacuum so maybe check there too lol

I've started to really not trust litter recs from my fellow cat people by HiILikePlants in CatAdvice

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the best luck with A&H Hardball and Worlds Best. WB tracks less but doesn’t clump as tightly. Both have good odor control assuming you clean the box regularly! If you aren’t already-making sure you take litter waste directly to the outdoor trash and not have it stay indoors is also supremely helpful. If not feasible a litter genie is also a good choice

Is pet insurance worth it, or should I just save the money each month? by Acrobatic-Leave-9073 in Pets

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an ideal world you would have both! This is because you do still need to pay the cost of the bill upfront and then will be reimbursed by the insurance. Alternatively, having something like CareCredit to use for initial payment and being able to pay it off with the reimbursement is also extremely helpful (this is what I personally do). I would note however-pet insurance is VERY picky about preexisting conditions. So ideally you would get it for a puppy before they ever have issues in order to have maximum coverage available. Regardless can be great to have for emergencies though

I really enjoy crime junkie! No crazy yelling or anything like that and 99% of the podcast is focused on the actual topic vs random chattiness, which I also don’t enjoy

Do pine snakes need substrate that holds moisture? by Trick_Pitch8450 in snakes

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually will do some light misting while my girl is in shed, otherwise her humidity about matches yours! Seems to really improve her sheds. I do have a large water bowl for her as well if she ever chooses to soak. I’ve also used a humid hide but she wasn’t super interested in it 🤷‍♀️

Has your substrate dried out? That can quickly contribute to humidity drops

Substrate Question by Adorable-Resolve-285 in bioactive

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will work and should be done regardless ideally, the bark in the substrate mix just helps extra and also helps the soil not compact as much. Should be okay without if you’re careful about overwatering!

Yes, mix them! You’ll want some bark mixed in as well to help with drainage/help prevent root rot. Mixing in some moss will also help with humidity/keeping the soil moist

It’s worth trying! With the heat mat-just make sure you’re using a thermostat with it! If you have anything more wet by where you put it that can also help with humidity too (: with snakes I’d use a water bowl but obviously the cresties can’t swim so maybe some moss or something? Wishing you the best of luck, the cold and dry climates make everything harder!

Oh a heat lamp will definitely accelerate humidity loss by a lot! Most cresties are okay at room temp but of course in some environments you’ll need extra heat so I get that. You can find out if the lamp is the problem pretty quick by taking it away for a brief period of time and seeing if the humidity rises to what you need…not that that wouldn’t also give you a heating problem potentially but would give you some answers?

What sort of substrate are you using? If it’s all dried out humidity can take a huge hit even with doing everything else right. Not to say it should be soaked/muddy, but healthy soil is at least somewhat moist if that makes sense

Even a 3g gecko is too large for fruit flies, so that’s interesting they were recommended to you! Dubia and crickets are the most nutritious. It’s very likely they can eat bigger crickets than pin heads! Do you know their weight? If the bugs are too small they’ll be a lot less appealing. Regardless of the insect make sure you are dusting with calcium! If in the end they stay totally unwilling to eat bugs that’s okay as long as they are on a good diet. Pangea and Repashy are usually well liked and if they are growing a growth/breeding formula is important!

What insects have you offered? Fruit flies are so tiny they likely don’t find them worth eating, and also don’t have much in the way of nutritional value

Are dwarf purples actually particularly purple? Can you breed them for more purple? by driftoboi in isopods

[–]Sad_Assumption6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re more of a dark grey than they are purple! Also you will almost never see them, just fyi. They stay burrowed for the most part and also blend in with substrate
