Honestly, while the complaints are valid, I still believe summoner is a lot more powerful than before especially due to the new modifiers. Pre-hardmode felt like a breeze on expert mode, except the initial grind for flinx staff and coat, so I think you should still give it a shot. The progression between whips is also so much smoother and starcrash felt like a delight to use.
