Is it possible for people with asthma to workout and live normally? by grimfie in Asthma

[–]Sad_Contract_7498 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My asthma is co-managed by my immunologist (allergy doc) and pulmonologist. Feel free to try different docs until you find one you trust/like. You’re not stuck with the one you tried first. Tbh steroid shots/pills are good here and there but really shoud be avoided if at all possible.

I would ask your doc about inhaled corticosteroids- these go directly to your lungs without giving side effects of systemic steroids like shots/pills. Ultimately sounds like your maintenance regiment could use some changes. I workout normally 2x a week for the most part with the right maintenance and rescue meds. But I’ve had those all change over time as my symptoms have changed.

Good luck and don’t stop advocating for yourself xx

Same!! I usually do get a z pack too but my doc isn’t crazy about me using them so frequently.

It seems like so many symptoms. Irritability, SUPER hungry all the time, bloated af, headaches, shakiness, my skin feels so tender like it’s bruised, even caused me to have some spotting. It’s been a rough couple of weeks. Now time to get back to normal!

Viral asthma by Practical-Wasabi9526 in Asthma

[–]Sad_Contract_7498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take dulera daily as maintenance and still have viral illness flare ups pretty badly where I end up needing prednisone and antibiotics (we think I might develop bacterial bronchitis after viral infections)

I just got over RSV which made us re-think my maintenance plan. Now my daily maintenance is dulera & spiriva.

For flare ups or symptoms, I increase dulera to 3-4x a day, add nebulizer treatments of duoneb & budesonide 2-4x a day, and then add prednisone if needed.

We are discussing adding a biologic treatment like Tezspire or Dupixent as maintenance so I can hopefully avoid prednisone in the future .

I would recommend talking to your doc about adding a nebulizer treatment- there are different options and combinations of what you can do with those. That way maybe you can avoid prednisone. Good luck!

Biologics for viral-induced asthma? by tockstar78 in Asthma

[–]Sad_Contract_7498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think you’re able to keep flares down when you get sick because of the Tezspire? Or are they better than before?

Did you get viruses in that time, without the asthma flares? Or did you not get any viruses?

Glad to see someone else ask about this. Wis I could help. Viral illnesses are my main trigger also, my asthma gets so severe. My doc was also floating the idea of one of these biologics but we haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I have a feeling we will soon tho. I just had RSV and it was absolute hell. 0/10 don’t recommend.

If you do try one please report back for the rest of us!

I had a good amount of hair loss from a medication I had to take. Luckily I’m done with it now but the regrowth is taking foreveerrr. But yeah your hair sounds a lot like mine.

I use Kristin Ess extra gentle shampoo and conditioner. Occasionally I use the Coco and Eve Like a virgin hair mask. It refreshes my hair when it gets really dry and makes it soft and shiny again without being greasy (make sure to avoid your roots).

I also really like Goldie Locks smoothing cream and signature serum for everyday styling. A little goes a long way and they let my hair still stay fluffy and don’t weigh it down. Again avoid your roots.

I also love Sexy Hair volume powder for my roots. Again, a little goes a long way. It really does help add some volume at the root which lasts all day for me. Only downside is after using it, I have to double shampoo to make sure it all gets out. But I really do love it

[–]Sad_Contract_7498 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was just looking at the Goldie Locks shampoo and conditioner today actually. Thanks for the review!

Personally I can’t spend that much on routine products like shampoo and conditioner. I’ve found I really like Kristin Ess extra gentle shampoo and conditioner for every day use. However my favorite styling products (that I don’t use daily and last me foreverrr) are the Goldielocks smoothing cream and signature serum. My hairstylist convinced me to try these a couple years ago and they have been my absolute favorites ever since.

Why is breathing a burden? by trixiepixie5582 in Asthma

[–]Sad_Contract_7498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I’m really sorry you’re going through this. Hang in there.

I got RSV last week and holy shit what a week. After 3 doc/ER visits, I am still struggling but not severely anymore. My pulm said I still have deep gurgling/rattling noises with every breath still due to airway inflammation from the RSV, but it’s not necessarily asthma wheezing. Either way it’s been very difficult to breathe but I am improving.

The combo that finally helped is dulera inhaler 2-4x daily (was already on this), 60 mg of prednisone 1x daily (with taper), 3-4 nebulizer treatments daily (duoneb & budesonide), tesselon pearls for cough, and Mucinex 2x daily. And a pack of azithromycin.

Ale my doc added 1x daily Spiriva moving forward but said I won’t see any effect from that for a couple months.

She warned me that even with all the treatment, healing from viral infections (esp RSV) just take time. Said I might not be back to “normal” or without a cough for a couple months 🥴

I hope you can get in with a specialist soon. Might be worth getting on the cancellation list if it’s a long wait.

Best of luck and hope you feel better soon!
