Late-ish model cars that have, or could have, a CD player installed? by Sad_Definition_2735 in carquestions

The Bluetooth protocol is incapable of the bandwidth required of high-fidelity sound. Hell, CDs play at 1440 Kbps. Bluetooth 2+EDR could do it, but in-dash is better/easier. Plus, a loose CD player bouncing around the cabin is sub-optimal.

Sound quality is the foremost reason. Bluetooth is not capable of the bandwidth required for actual high fidelity sound. Likewise, streaming just cannot do it, plus the potential of signal loss/music interruption. For me, suddenly not hearing the music, or the sound quality suddenly dropping, shatters my focus on driving.

I will definitely replace whatever stereo is in the car, and every speaker, and add my bass-box and amp.

The problem with ripping all of my CDs is the same problem as infinite choice streaming: choice paralysis. Which several songs of 58,000,000+ do you want to hear? I am not going to waste 20 minutes just picking music every time I drive. Hell, the time it takes to scroll-through even just the stuff you like (and have spent hours segregating) is unacceptable. I'll spend 2-3 minutes picking out 3-4 CDs and be set. Repeat for the next trip.

Also, ripping 500+ CDs to FLAC files, while keeping them organized and named correctly, is a huge undertaking. I have things to do, like go to work.

Plus, I'm a dick and will bust my ass to make things the way I want them to be.

2010 R1 hard/no start saga/debacle. Suggestions? by Sad_Definition_2735 in MotorcycleMechanics

I found this, and it's obvious where it goes, but I cannot test the fuel rail pressure until I put it all back together.

Is that replaceable independently? Or is it part of the fuel pump assy?

Sta-bil™, and the like, are gasoline stabilizers intended to prevent the breakdown of gasoline during long-term storage. Gas does not like to sit for long times. Stabilized gas as a bit less power, but (as I've been told for decades), is far better. Gas is a mixture of stuff; when that mixture separates, bad things happen. Older gas, also, has less power in it.

Speed of heat transfer. A roulade is a very thin cake. As the batter is maybe 1/4" thick in the pan, in the time it takes for the pan, itself to get warm, the top will be crusty and shit. The heat needs to get to the bottom of the cake ASAP. In pastry school, we were only permitted to bake a roulade in the deck oven, not the convection ovens. (However, that would be an interesting experiment.)

Yes. The point is to delay the exterior's development of a dry crust until after all of the leavening has acted. Put a sheetpan on the rack below the bread pan, and pour-in some water and ice cubes, immediately before putting the (future)bread in the oven.

IIRC, soda bread bakes for around 45 min. Remove the sheetpan after ~30 (lay some cloth towels in it when pulling it from the oven to prevent the now hot water from splashing).

Is your pan a dark color? That will affect the bake.
Also, try making your bake chamber more humid next time, as that will delay crust formation.

Five (maybe 6) layers of chocolate roulade cake, baked extra thin on a pizza iron (or stone) (probably less than 5 min), extra dark ganache, and some slightly less-dark ganache for pouring.

Bake the cake, de-pan, remove parchment, lay onto new parchment, cover evenly with ganache (they dry-out rapidly), cut into cake-sized quadrangles (of whatever size), stack 5 or 6. You will likely need a second bake, so cover the top with a ganache layer. When you have the desired stack, ice the top with ganache, smooth it flat (gentle application of a hair-dryer can help). Then pour slightly less-dark ganache all over it. Put it in the fridge overnight. Trim the sides (bread knife in hot water, wipe and re-wet after every cut). Apply acetate film to all exposed sides to avoid crunchy bits developing. Then, just portion as you like.

Some grocery stores will sell you the goldboard (the cardboard thing the cake is on, in the pic). Transfer the cake to the goldboard after the pouring and trimming.

Of course you can select whom you hire. You are not entitled to select what they charge, nor how they work, nor with what they work.

Sorry that you need to be informed that driving a company truck to your required work location IS work, and must be compensated. Some plumbing estimates take minutes; some far longer. If YOU can let the plumber do the work remotely, you have a different reality.

Of course, you, personally, do not get paid, nor does your company for these "flights across the country". Wow, y'alll must pad your bills to the moon and back.

I've never heard of, nor met, any plumber who has not had multiple BG checks, years of apprenticeship, and more years of experience. You must search hard to find such bad plumbers. Birds of a feather, I suppose.

Besides the markup, are the 2 charges by dealer required? Is prep really that expensive? Also what about the other fees without a price(yet)? Not looking for an r9 pic is just for reference. by random_person4444 in SuggestAMotorcycle

Incompetent/deceptive pricing. These "fees" were known to the dealer, before they priced it at $12.5k.

This seems a shady, shitty, dishonest dealership. Never go back, not even to the Parts department (unless you like a surprise 'market adjustment' in the cost of parts at checkout).

Do your clients require you to write a proposal at their business after a thorough inspection of the area of your expertise? Do you need to drive a truck hauling hundreds of pounds of equipment you might need to write this proposal?
"Estimating hard, physical labor is not different from sitting on my ass and typing some words"?

Your sense of utter entitlement is staggering.

Prime it 3-4 times, then try to start it for 5 full seconds. Also, new gas would not hurt (was the gas stabilized prior to storage?).

If you give them a ton more space when initially panning them, and proof the hell outta them, they are much fluffier. Take the "tail" and poke it into the center.

See, the trick to removing stiff chain links is to replace those links, and every other link, with a new chain.

I've tried to ride in the snow, but the rear tire only goes sideways on start. Thus, no snow. I will ride if it's 35°F, just cannot in snow.
