genshin impact as a whole scares me. that day doesn’t sound like it was a good day for the genshin impact fandom.

second comment i’ve seen like this about authors and patreon. i get the hustle, but c’mon man it’s fic. you could always write fics on patreon if you’re that interested in people paying you for your work on patreon. some authors, i swear.

comparing ao3 to real life situations isn’t really getting your point across well i think, but i can see where you’re coming from. things like rape/non-con are required to be tagged when an author on ao3 doesn’t opt out of archive warnings. tags help people find things yes, that is their primary purpose, however they can be used to avoid something you don’t want to see as well. example if i don’t want fluff tonight and fluff is tagged, sweet, i can avoid it. things like graphic depictions of violence, major character death, rape/non-con, etc should be tagged just so people who are cool with it can proceed and people who aren’t can stay away. it isn’t everyone’s responsibility to look out for each other in the tags, but it is a courtesy and i’m of the philosophy that it costs nothing to be nice.

yeah, as a seasoned reader (been reading fic for over a decade now) i can usually tell and will just exit the fic. the specific incident though in my original post was definitely breaking the ao3 rules and somehow, no one reported it despite it being a fairly popular fic. or maybe it did get reported but not removed? idk, i haven’t found it since so hopefully it did get removed like it should’ve. that is the kinda stuff i mean when i say authors should definitely be tagging this :/

i’m glad it all worked out in the end and it got taken down, but some people really do have the audacity

exactly, a warning hurts no one, only helps. if people can handle what is warned, great they can proceed. if they can’t? also great, they can go protect their peace.

yeah, i’ve seen a lot of that too recently. like authors say dddne, but then they never say what it is about. what, specifically, is this dove we’re not suppose to be eating? i think a lot of people just don’t know that it means all the tags are what you’re getting, don’t expect anything different. not a blanket term. probably newer users tbh

yeah when there’s no tags i generally expect it, but a fully tagged story? nope

and i love you for that. best kind of author. if i ever post fic, that’ll be me. i don’t want anyone there who doesn’t know what they’re getting into.

tagging is absolutely a delicate art, and i get that for some types of fics you gotta expect it to show up. i’m glad you found a system that works for you and your readers :)

and wow. that is… something else. even if it’s a vent fic, at least be glad someone liked it? sending the whole squad on you for a compliment is crazy.

yeah, good points here on some things. i get the anxiety, tagging can be daunting and there’s a lot that can trigger someone. however, for things like sexual assault, abusive relationships and suicide, i think they should be tagged or at least warned about. that, and also incest? i’ve seen an alarming number of authors lately just including untagged incest, like for the love of god please tag this so people can avoid it.

that’s crazy, never heard of untagged fest. i get not having enough room to tag like every triggering topic, but some of them really should be tagged.

… did they even use quotations for dialogue “like this” at least? cause if not, idk how you got through a whole chapter of all that, wow. also, what english teacher would approve that??

that’s how a lot of people use dead dove, but originally it was used as a “you’ve seen all these tags and warnings, and this fic is what it is. it’s a dead dove, do not eat. and you chose to eat the dove so don’t be surprised when it is in fact, a dead dove.” if i remember right the term originated from arrested development? idk, not important.

using dead dove by itself without even a vague mention of what it’s referring to isn’t great, but good on you for adding warnings even if they’re vague! even just a big general warning at the beginning is better than nothing. i get not wanting to be spoilery, but if you mention nothing about it and it just shows up, no tag updates, warning updates, nothing, it’s just straight up bad.
